Responsibilities

  • Oversee the client's corporate, operational, and construction insurance programs on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the maintenance of insurance policy documents. Conduct policy coverage analyses to identify gaps and ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness
  • Collaborate with the Risk Team to procure new coverage and renew the client's insurance programs. Participate in the strategic review of the risk management program and contribute to the development of methods to eliminate, mitigate, transfer, reduce, and/or retain risk
  • Review, draft, approve, and enhance insurance provisions within leases, credit agreements, and contractor and consultant contracts
  • Develop and maintain accurate and updated underwriting data for distribution to brokerage and insurer partners, facilitating budgeting and coverage placement
  • Identify loss exposures, recommend solutions, and qualify and implement recommendations from insurer risk improvement surveys. This involves the development and implementation of procedures or physical site modifications to reduce hazard risk exposure to assets
  • Conduct training sessions with Property Management and Building Operations teams, focusing on incident response and loss prevention
  • Participate in the claims management function, including timely reporting of claims to the client's insurers, maintaining claim files, conducting loss trending and analysis, and working with colleagues and the client's control adjuster to achieve maximum equitable claims settlement and expedited resolution
  • Assist with due diligence and underwriting of acquisitions
  • Cultivate relationships with external third parties such as underwriters, broker partners, claims adjusters, insurance consultants, restoration contractors, and lenders
  • Review and process insurance invoices, maintaining an invoice tracking system

Requirements

  • Accumulate a minimum of 6-8 years of insurance experience, preferably in real estate or construction risk management, property or construction insurance underwriting, or broking within a real estate or construction practice
  • Possess a Canadian Risk Management (CRM) or Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation
  • Hold an undergraduate degree or college diploma; focus in business, accounting, engineering, or finance is considered an asset
  • Demonstrate strong time management and multitasking skills, with the ability to thoughtfully plan and oversee multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish with minimal supervision
  • Exhibit excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail
  • Showcase extensive computer skills, including a profound knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Function as a team player with a proven ability to build relationships at all organizational levels, work collaboratively, and drive for results
  • Display self-motivation with a high level of accountability, capable of meeting deadlines under pressure, responding timely, and anticipating needs
  • Show eagerness to identify, evaluate, and develop new ideas, supporting them with results, setting clear objectives, and delivering on commitments
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable with simplifying complicated information for effective delivery
