Job Overview

JOB FUNCTION

  • Working in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations: Perform all training duties within the Electrical & Control trade/technical work
  • function. Perform all or part of the technical/trade duties to maintain skills and competencies for training purposes.

JOB DUTIES

  • Responsibilities are consistent with training and experience in industrial structures, equipment, systems and facilities.
  • In accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations, perform training duties including:
  • Accountable for the health, safety and well-being of self and others, in accordance with technical/ operating procedures and standards, and includes the development of technical/operational solutions to problems.
  • Administer and grade approved tests and evaluations, in accordance with status, for courses within assigned area of expertise. Facilitate end of course evaluations, and analyze data collected from trainees.
  • As assigned, provide stewardship over content and quality of materials for specified courses.
  • Assign and oversee tasks performed by trainees in a variety of settings including classroom, shop and on-the-job. Monitor trainee progress on an ongoing basis, and provide coaching where necessary. Assess learning in terms of trainee progress, trends and issues, and report to appropriate FLM/Manager.
  • Assign and oversee tasks performed by trainees in a variety of settings including classroom, shop and on-the-job. Demonstrate leadership by providing direction, monitoring and coaching. Carry out Job, Task, needs and/or cost analysis to justify courses within assigned areas, as directed by Manager. Prepare curriculum, establish learning objectives, methods and the like. Conduct pilot sessions, peer evaluations, and post-training evaluations to improve upon the viability of the function. Deliver approved training to trainees within assigned area of expertise. Ensure safety and order of training setting in accordance with the Conduct of Training and associated procedures and standards. Modify aspects of training, tools and lesson material to ensure effectiveness. Prepare training settings, making changes, as necessary. Evaluate trainee progress and mark approved tests in accordance with standards. Report on trainee progress and issues to Manager. Carry out other administrative and instructional tasks associated with the function of the role. Perform all or part of the duties to maintain skills and competencies for training purposes. Understand and operate a variety of portable hand and power tools, testing and calibration instruments related to control maintenance work.
  • Carries out good housekeeping, safety and fire prevention practices in performing the work.
  • Carry out Job, Task, needs and cost analysis to justify courses within assigned areas, as directed by Manager. Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to define the knowledge, skills and performance standards for tasks. Analyze data to determine most suitable training setting (i.e., classroom, shop, simulator, etc.). Prepare and execute a plan for training course development or revision.
  • Carry out post-training evaluations in assigned area in a variety of settings including classroom, shop and on-the-job. Utilize post-training feedback to identify gaps and areas of improvement required in training courses.
  • Conduct new course pilot sessions within area of assigned expertise. As directed, observe training delivery within assigned scope. Provide on-the-job training to instructors in identified areas requiring improvements.
  • Construct test and test banks within area of expertise. Prepare pre-testing methods for new hires or employees as required. Submit to Manager for review and approval.
  • Deliver training to personnel in assigned area of expertise, using approved training materials in classroom, shop, on-the-job or other work environment. Uphold all safety and Business Code of Conduct rules, standards, and practices in the Training environment. Practice all Conduct of Training accountabilities and ensure same are understood and adopted by trainer. May include using and/or delivering vendor-developed materials.
  • Develop curriculum outline that defines structure of training, and based upon previous analysis with respect to tasks and job performance requirements, establish learning objectives, activities and methods. Update/revise existing tools as necessary. As assigned, obtain and analyze vendor developed materials to determine potential applicability. Develop lesson plans, evaluation, instruments and other course materials within assigned areas. Develop job performance measures for same. Submit for review and approval to Manager.
  • Maintain order in classroom, referring matters involving discipline to Manager. Maintain and report on attendance of trainees.
  • Make changes to training materials and evaluation instruments to ensure current status. Sequence learning objectives and evaluate and modify test questions as per results of Job and Task analysis.
  • Prepare the training setting, ensuring all required configuration changes to classroom or shop/laboratory equipment are undertaken. Maintain equipment in a state of readiness to support quality training.

Qualifications

CERTIFICATION/LICENCES

  • Must have trades training as a skilled journeyperson in instrumentation, control and electrical equipment/systems.
  • Must have completed training for NC4 and NC3 qualification.
  • Gr. 12 and its equivalents in credits, plus certification in electrical, electronic or instrumentation trades may be accepted as minimum qualifications to this position.
  • Works from blueprints, work orders, specifications, computers or oral instructions.
  • Additional training will be required on safety systems qualifications. 1-2 positions will be allocated to Darlington Special Safety System Qualifications and hence must be qualified or attain qualification in this specific area.
  • 1-2 positions will be for an Electrical Instructor
  • 1-2 positions will be for an Instrumentation & Control Instructor
