Ontario, Canada Port Colborne Bocce Club Inc Full time

The Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum is just a block away from the southern terminus of the Welland Ship Canal in the Niagara Region. We are looking for an Exhibition and Research Assistant Intern for 10 months to help develop and design new exhibitions. As Exhibition and Research Assistant Intern, you will be working in the Williams' House and the Captain Sharpe Heritage Resource Centre on the grounds of the Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum. You will be researching and creating an exhibit on the Neff Steam Buggy to compliment the Museum's 2024 main exhibit focusing on innovations and products made in Port Colborne. You will also be researching the topics and themes for "micro" temporary traveling exhibits and "Macro" large heritage public art murals that will be placed outside the Museum's buildings and around the community, as well as researching and developing a detailed plan on how to create these exhibits.
The ideal candidate must be a recent graduate from a post-secondary level program with a degree in either Museum Studies, History, Public History, or other related disciplines. An interest in local history, interpretation and exhibition skills are an asset. It is expected the candidate will have proficient computer skills, including Microsoft 365, Adobe Suites, and familiarity with digitization equipment, such as scanners and cameras. Strong research and design skills would be an asset, as well as previous experience working or volunteering at museum or a gallery.
