Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at Enterprise Square.

Performance, Analytics and Institutional Research is a dynamic and team centric environment, where client service, transparency and clarity is paramount.

Position

Under the overall direction of the Manager, Institutional Research, the Data Analytics Specialist is a key member of the Institutional Research team. The position requires a high degree of independence, detail orientation, communication skills, and expertise in data analytics. This role involves performing complex data research and analysis to support business operations, including design and create statistical and machine learning models following industry best practices for the purpose of identifying trends in large data sets. The analysis is applied to various areas of the business, utilizing existing and emerging statistical and/or data science principles, theories, and techniques to inform decisions. This position leads research and analysis related to university, conducting research to provide evidence-based analyses and insights for senior executive officers, planning units, and external partners.

Duties

This position is responsible for performing complex data research and analysis to support business operations including:

  • Carries out the necessary analyses to develop accurate, comprehensive, and timely answers proactively to broad policy issues and as questions arise, and prepares effective presentations to relate the information.
  • Designs and conducts research on a broad variety of fields including, but not limited to, student progression and completion; student satisfaction and financial support; faculty and staff workloads; university revenues, expenditures, and economic impact; demographic analyses of student, faculty and staff populations; rankings.
  • Consults with internal units and external agencies to identify and extract critically important information with respect to key strategic needs of the University.
  • Generates and presents key analytical findings to an audience with varied backgrounds.
  • Participate in the data quality assurance function for the Institutional Data Warehouse.
  • Design and create statistical and machine learning models following industry best practices for the purpose of identifying trends in large data sets.
  • Fields and responds to ad-hoc requests
Qualifications
  • A relevant degree in an analytical discipline, for example, Mathematical and/or Statistical Sciences, Library and Information Studies, Social Sciences, etc. equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Four to eight years of practical experience in client-focused research and analysis, with a proven track record of evaluating data validity and reliability across diverse sources.
  • Strong knowledge of data science and statistical principles.
  • Advanced skills in data extraction, manipulation and analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in using relevant, up-to-date computer programs or programming languages for data access and analysis, and to learn to use new ones as they evolve.
  • Proven ability to oversee projects.
  • Experience in designing and implementing data metrics, with exposure to different data development environments.
  • Strong time management skills, including accurate estimation of project timelines.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills for internal and external consultations and reports.
  • Strong ability of explaining technical/analytical solutions to a non-technical audience.
  • Superior ability to collaborate with colleagues to address data quality and selection challenges.
