Quality Control Supervisor (Kitchen)

The Quality Control Supervisor (Kitchen) is responsible for monitoring and following up on the daily operations of all Healthy Planet Kitchens, with main responsibilities to ensure appropriate food service & safety measures are adhered to, processes are being accurately followed, food loss is being controlled and minimized, menu items are being executed with quality and consistency, and customers are receiving exceptional service across the board.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Monitor the kitchen activities; starting from checking all prepared food items, the prep stations to ensure products are fresh and best before dates are being properly managed, to the assembly of menu items made to order both in store and via delivery platforms, ensure the cleanliness of the kitchens (this includes all work areas i.e./ open kitchen, dry storage area, back prep stations), ensure the rotation of items in fridges and freezers.
  • Spearhead exceptional customer service through all interactions with kitchen members and customers, while providing suggestions and coaching where needed.
  • Liaison between kitchen locations and the Commissary effectively communicating any problems/issues along with bringing forward any changes that could improve processes and increase productivity.
  • Position requires travel to and amongst current Healthy Planet Kitchen locations (Ajax, Downtown, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Oakville) and the upcoming Kitchen locations in future
  • Monitor the receiving process for all produce received (fresh, frozen, and dry products) and confirm these products are received at required temperatures and not damaged.
  • Ensure employees are following all food safety and basic hygiene standards.
  • Managing Risk and Process Improvements.
  • Weekly Food Safety Inspections.
  • Daily review of cleaning practices, (Sanitation check at prep sinks).
  • Oversee QC Team efforts and report findings to upper management.
  • Collect and review all checklists and schedules filled by the kitchen manager.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen lead and/or manager to ensure all food items and supplies are available on site.
  • Check orders for accuracy, confirm quality, quantity and specifications.
  • Cover shifts as needed in the event of a kitchen supervisor or team lead going on holidays, or extended illness.
  • Oversee inventories to ensure accuracy, efficiency, proper supplies handling and minimal damage.
  • Support the initial training of all kitchen hires and continual coaching and support on food safety and good food handling practices.
  • Ensure food safety norms and standards are applied at all stages of implementation (preparation, assembly and storage) as indicated in the training manual and SOPs.
  • Maintain records of repairs, initiating service calls, follow-up and seeing it through to resolution.
  • Creating contact documents at each kitchen (managers, staff, equipment contacts, repair contacts)
  • Collect and review negative adjustment procedures and logs to mitigate food waste.
  • Implement and monitor CCP's and food safety standards through the food process flow, at all locations.
  • Assess, discuss and address any challenges with the Executive Chef and Production Manager.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Executive Chef and Production Manager to review evaluations at each kitchen level and monthly team meetings.
  • Attend and participate in new product training and new hire training whether at the store level or at the commissary.
  • Support the set up and launch of the new Healthy Planet Kitchen Locations and works with the team until self sufficient
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma in Culinary management would be preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience
  • Experience in kitchen or catering company is preferred
  • Experience working in a fast paced, fast growth environment
  • Experience coaching and managing teams an asset
  • Must have a vehicle and valid drivers license.
  • Food handlers certificate is required
