About UsCan Grow Here is an AgTech startup being incubated in the Toronto Metropolitan University Clean Energy Zone and the Bioenterprise Grow Ontario Accelerator Hub. Its focus is on providing the Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) industry with radically energy-efficient smart building infrastructure. We are looking for a Research and Design Associate who would play an important role in our interdisciplinary R&D stream.The goal of our R&D phase is to understand, contribute to and build upon the state of the art in techno-economic analysis of CEA facilities, focusing on their integration as a coherent solution. Its output will be a field-tested, best-practices pattern for the design of a series of novel facilities to be built across Canada.The JobThe role would involve working closely with industry and academic experts in various fields on component evaluation, design of structural and mechanical systems as well as on definition of field validation procedures. The R&D Associate will be a key coordinator of the partner projects that are advancing our prototyping activities.QualificationsThe ideal candidate would be a graduate engineer with a passion for sustainable buildings and a background in building design & construction, HVAC or building automation. The Associate is expected to have strong skills in design and demonstrate proficiency in design thinking; experience in the use of modeling tools like SketchUp, Revit, AGi32, TRNSYS, EnergyPlus, SimaPro, Ansys etc. would be a plus. Through this engagement they will develop and broaden these skills, expand their professional network, and gain valuable experience in interacting with a diverse group of collaborators.Terms & CompensationThe position is based in the GTA, and we offer a hybrid work arrangement anchored to our office/lab space on the TMU campus in downtown Toronto. Occasional visits to the premises of other partners should also be expected.
