About our client:

Our client is one of the largest cannabis producers. We are looking for a Manager of Cultivation to join their team. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the cultivation department within the R&D facility with the goal of managing their live plant germplasm and ensuring crop programs and trials are delivered on time, in good health and within the scope of their breeding genetics programs and research projects. He or she will also manage the cultivation team and relevant budget.

This individual will work closely with all department leaders and the Director, Science & Operations to support and implement best-practices and Standard Operating Procedures as well as manage the environmental, nutrient and IPM strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the greenhouse operating system to enable smooth and consistent environmental conditions, nutrient and irrigation strategies as well as ensuring seasonal adjustments are made and monitored based on weather conditions.
  • Overseeing the Integrated Pest Management Program and develop strategies for pest and disease management to ensure an effective program.
  • Supporting the team in growing knowledge acquisition related to best practices in record management, propagation, transplanting, crop maintenance, spray applications and on time performance related to Crop Schedules.
  • Supporting the Site Scheduling and Programming on a continuous basis related to fine tuning and optimal timing as it relates to crop health.
  • Learning and understanding the site trials and programs to adapt the growing culture to the goals of the trials.
  • Interpreting media, water and/or plant nutrient analysis to effectively adapt fertigation recipes and/or adjust crop irrigation strategies.
  • Monitoring and enforcing data collection as required by the Senior Leadership as it relates to Crop management and regulatory requirements.
  • Overseeing and responding to greenhouse alarms and report to Senior Leadership to facilitate continuous improvements and mitigate risks to the greenhouse structure and crops.
  • Supporting the distribution of plant material to the company's network while facilitating production scale trials, initiating new mother stock and ensuring redundancy of key genetics assets.
  • Supporting in the development and writing of SOP's specific to IPM, Growing and Crop maintenance activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science or related field.
  • Proven experience in cannabis cultivation, with a minimum of 3 years in a management and or a people-management role.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a Grower or Lead Grower position in a greenhouse environment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience working with Priva and/or other Greenhouse operating systems and managing/collaborating with Facility & Engineering departments to manage complex high-tech greenhouse systems and equipment required.
  • In-depth knowledge of cannabis cultivation techniques, plant nutrition, and pest management and experience with commercial plant propagation in a greenhouse environment; experience with cannabis or hemp propagation and cultivation would be an asset.
  • Experience with scheduling, crop maintenance and shipping of unrooting cuttings for Genetic Stock/Mother Programs.
  • Experience with R&D trials and growing crops in an R&D facility environment is an asset.
  • Proven experience in IPM particularly related to Cannabis and Health Canada regulations.
  • Familiarity with modern greenhouse operational systems including irrigation, Priva, air handling, lighting, etc.
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office, particularly with Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.
