Quantum Hardware Engineer – Superconducting Hardware (SPC) About the Role Quantum Hardware Engineer specialising in superconducting hardware (SPC) to help develop, characterise, and optimise next-generation superconducting quantum devices and cryogenic systems. You will work at the intersection of superconducting circuit design, microwave engineering, nanofabrication, and low-temperature measurement, contributing directly to the performance and stability of a cutting-edge quantum hardware platform. Responsibilities Design, build, and characterise superconducting quantum devices, including resonators, qubits & parametric quantum amplifiers. Set up and operate cryogenic measurement platforms (dilution refrigerators, ADRs), enabling high-fidelity microwave characterisation at mK temperatures. Optimise device performance through loss analysis, materials improvements, packaging refinement, and electromagnetic modelling. Develop and maintain microwave signal chains, biasing networks, and low-noise readout paths suitable for quantum-sensitive hardware. Perform time-domain and frequency-domain measurements to evaluate coherence, noise contributions, and device-level stability. Collaborate with nanofabrication teams to iterate device designs and implement new process flows. Create automated measurement routines, data pipelines, and documentation for reproducible device characterisation. Work cross-functionally with quantum control, theory, and systems teams to inform architecture and scaling decisions. Requirements Hands-on experience with superconducting quantum devices such as resonators, qubits, SQUIDs, Parametric Quantum Amplifiers or other cryogenic microwave components. Practical proficiency operating dilution refrigerators or cryostats, including wiring, calibration, and low-noise measurement. Strong grounding in microwave engineering, S-parameters, cryogenic RF components, and impedance-matched signal chains. Familiarity with nanofabrication (thin films, etching, liftoff, deposition) for superconducting or semiconductor quantum devices. Experience conducting low-temperature coherence, loss, noise, or material-dependent performance studies. Competence in automation and data analysis (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or equivalent). Clear communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary hardware teams. Educational background in physics, electrical engineering, quantum engineering, or related fields. Reach out to Conor Johnston @SEER to discuss this or other opportunities.
