To learn more, visit us at: Position Overview The Director, Total Rewards at Stella-Jones leads the strategy, design, and delivery of the company’s total rewards and payroll programs across Canada and the U.S. The role ensures that all compensation, benefits, retirement, and wellness programs are competitive, equitable, and aligned with business objectives. Acting as a key partner to HR and business leaders, the Director aligns total rewards programs with business priorities, reinforces employee engagement, and strengthens the company’s value proposition as an employer of choice. The Director, Total Rewards also manages relationships with external vendors and consultants, negotiates contracts, and evaluates performance to ensure high-quality service delivery. In addition, they lead and participate in compensation-related projects such as mergers and acquisitions, integrations, and process improvements, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement across all programs. This position is opening due to an internal promotion and reports to the Vice President of Human Resources. The position will be hybrid and based either at our HQ in Montréal (Saint-Laurent) or at one of our US offices (Pittsburgh, Lenexa, or Tacoma). The role involves travel (expected to be up to 20%) across the US and Canada. Key Responsibilities Compensation: Manage and optimize annual compensation processes, including budgeting, annual salary reviews and Hourly, Salaried and Executives bonus programs. Enhance understanding, transparency, and communication of the company’s total rewards offering. Strengthen leadership capability through training on compensation principles and best practices. Select and interpret appropriate market data to ensure competitiveness and internal equity across all roles and geographies. Executive Compensation: Lead the design, benchmarking, and governance of executive compensation programs, including short- and long-term incentives. Participate in preparing materials and recommendations for the Human Resources & Compensation Committee (HRCC) of the Board of Directors. Ensure alignment between executive compensation strategy, business performance, and shareholder interests. Partner with Finance and Legal to ensure compliance, transparency, and consistency in executive pay disclosures and reporting. Benefits and Retirement: Define and execute an integrated benefits and retirement strategy that supports employee engagement, well-being and long-term financial security. Oversee plan design, renewal, and governance for all health, retirement and wellness programs (RRSP/401(k), DB, DC) across Canada and the U.S. Ensure programs remain competitive, compliant, and cost-effective through market benchmarking and vendor performance management. Partner with Finance and Legal to maintain robust governance and risk oversight. Payroll: Oversee payroll operations for both Canada and the U.S., ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely processing. Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and state tax and labor regulations. Partner with Finance and HRIS teams to ensure accurate reporting, reconciliations, and integration of payroll data with HR and Finance systems. Qualifications Required: 12 or more years of experience in the Compensation and Benefits arena Excellent knowledge of compensation principles, practices, and regulatory frameworks in both Canada and the U.S. Proven expertise in executive compensation design, benchmarking, and governance. Demonstrated experience leading U.S. benefits programs, with a solid understanding of plan design, compliance, and vendor management. Ce rôle veille à ce que l’ensemble des programmes des régimes de retraite et des mesures de bien-être soient compétitifs, équitables et en parfaite cohérence avec les objectifs de l’entreprise. En tant que partenaire clé des leaders RH et des dirigeants d’affaires, le titulaire aligne les programmes de rémunération globale sur les priorités stratégiques de l’entreprise, renforce l’engagement des employés et consolide la proposition de valeur de l’employeur dans un contexte de concurrence accrue pour les talents. Le Directeur, rémunération globale gère également les relations avec les fournisseurs externes et les cabinets-conseils, négocie les ententes, et évalue la prestation de services afin d’assurer un niveau de service optimal. De plus, il pilote et contribue à des projets liés à la rémunération, notamment les acquisitions, les intégrations et les efforts d’amélioration des processus, favorisant ainsi l’excellence opérationnelle et l’amélioration continue de tous les programmes. Ce poste est disponible à la suite d’une promotion interne et relève du Vice-président des ressources humaines. Il est offert en mode hybride, localisé soit au siège social de Montréal, soit dans l’un des bureaux américains de l’entreprise (Pittsburgh, Lenexa ou Tacoma). Des déplacements seront requis (jusqu’à 20 % estimés) à travers le Canada et les États-Unis. Principales responsabilités Rémunération : Gérer et optimiser les processus annuels de rémunération, incluant l’établissement des budgets, l’augmentation salarial annuelle et les programmes de bonification pour employés horaires, salariés et cadres. Accroître la compréhension, la transparence et la communication de l’offre de rémunération globale. Renforcer les capacités de leadership par des formations sur les principes de rémunération et les meilleures pratiques. Rémunération des cadres : Concevoir, analyser et assurer la gouvernance des programmes de rémunération des cadres, incluant les incitatifs à court et à long terme. Participer à la préparation des documents et recommandations à l’intention du Comité des ressources humaines et de la rémunération du conseil d’administration. Veiller à l’alignement entre la stratégie de rémunération des cadres, la performance de l’entreprise et les intérêts des actionnaires. Avantages sociaux et retraite : Définir et exécuter une stratégie intégrée d’avantages sociaux et de retraite qui soutient l’engagement des employés, leur bien-être et leur sécurité financière à long terme. Superviser la conception, le renouvellement et la gouvernance de tous les régimes de santé, retraite et bien-être (REER/401k, rentes à prestations déterminées, à cotisations déterminées) au Canada et aux États-Unis. Garantir que les programmes demeurent compétitifs, conformes et rentables via des études de marché et la gestion de la performance des fournisseurs. Paie : Superviser les opérations de paie tant pour le Canada que pour les États-Unis, en assurant une exécution précise et conforme. Veiller à la conformité aux régimes fiscaux et de droit du travail au Canada (fédéraux et provinciaux) et aux États-Unis. Collaborer avec les équipes finance et SIRH pour garantir des rapports exacts et l’intégration des données de paie aux systèmes RH et financiers. Profil recherché Exigences : Minimum de 12 ans d’expérience dans le domaine de la rémunération et des avantages sociaux. Excellente maîtrise des principes, pratiques et cadres réglementaires de la rémunération tant au Canada qu’aux États-Unis. Expertise avérée en conception, benchmarking et gouvernance de la rémunération des cadres. Expérience démontrée des programmes d’avantages sociaux américains, avec une solide compréhension de la conception des régimes, de la conformité et de la gestion des fournisseurs. Expérience antérieure dans une entreprise publique. Expérience multi-sites couvrant le Canada et les États-Unis. Expérience en rémunération des cadres. Atouts : Expérience dans l’industrie manufacturière. Expérience en conseil en rémunération et avantages sociaux. Titres ou certifications en RH ou rémunération (ex. : CCP, CBP).
