Title: Senior Regulatory SpecialistLocation: Mississauga, ON (remote, but on-site training)Duration: 6 months (chance to extend)Your New CompanyA leading transport company is looking to hire a contractor to their team for a 6-month term.Your New roleMaintain up-to-date knowledge of regulations affecting import, export and transportation of goods by conducting research via internet, global trade data, and other internal/external resources and through consultation with government agencies as necessary to compile information.Establish and maintain compliance standards by developing policies, procedures and reference materials related to each discipline (import, export and transportation) in each FTNC location. Professional standards will be maintained by ensuring all staff is informed of changes on a timely basis.Provide guidance to FTNC associates when dealing with difficult questions of regulations and policy with regard to government agency requirements.Deliver in-house training at multiple levels of the organization for all regions with respect to regulatory compliance and related issues or changes.Represents the Canada Customs Compliance and Regulatory department on cross-functional committees or projects as necessary to assist with the implementation of new Regulatory initiatives and establish new or refine existing procedures.Participate/assist in the development of external communication (trade bulletins/trade lines)Assist Manager, Customs Compliance and Regulatory Affairs in development of department ProceduresEstablish and maintain compliance standards by developing policies, procedures and reference materials related to each discipline (import, export and transportation) in each FTNC location. Maintain professional standards by ensuring all staff are informed of changes on a timely basis.Monitor departments’ daily flow, quality of work produced and responsibilities. Refer current issues and potential problems to ManagerAssist Manager, Customs Compliance and Regulatory Affairs with creation and development of department procedures.Establish and maintain compliance standards by developing policies, procedures and reference materials related to each discipline (import, export and transportation) in each FTNC location. Assist with the communication of professional standards to all staff.Identify major regulatory or procedural changesMaintain a program of periodic visits to FTNC offices to audit records and ensure compliance with the laws and regulations involving import and export and transportation of goods. When noncompliance is found.Work with the Customs Specialist and/or Analyst on Customs Trade Compliance random verification audits or other audits.What you need to succeedBachelor’s Degree or DiplomaA CCS and/or CTCS designation are requiredCIFFA designation would be an assetMinimum 10 years of experience in Customs Brokerage, Freight Forwarding and Distribution industry with 5 years’ experience in a Customs and Regulatory Compliance positionAdvanced knowledge of MS Office, OutlookComprehensive knowledge of Canada Customs and Transport Canada regulations and other Federal agency regulationsAbility to work under pressure, exercise good time management skills, detail-orientedExcellent communication, customer service, organization and inter-personal skillsWhat you need to do nextIf you're interested in this role, apply directly If this job isn't quite right for you but you are looking for a new position, please contact us for a confidential discussion on your career.
