The Role:

We are currently looking for an Engineering candidate for the Mechanical Design of custom machinery. This expert will possess the work knowledge and experience to complete mechanical designs in a fast-paced environment following company standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Design and detail required drawings by developing concepts and doing the required research, computation, and analysis;
  • Using the latest CAD software, create all the necessary drawings for the machine shop, including detail, mechanical components, sub-assembly, and assembly drawings and BOM;
  • Ensure that engineering specifications and other documents are stored accurately and at appropriate location as per engineering procedures;
  • Execute assigned design responsibilities with the timely release of drawings by working closely with the Project Leader;
  • Successfully execute assigned projects with the timely release of long lead and standard components;
  • Ensure designs conform to Samco engineering standards and meet project requirements as per the Accepted Customer Purchase Order;
  • Process Engineering Change Requests on a timely basis to ensure errors are not repeated;
  • Maintain effective and ongoing communication with Mechanical, Electrical and Tooling engineering during the design process.


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Post-secondary Engineering degree;
  • 3+ years of machine design experience;
  • Advanced computer skills are required with an understanding of Inventor or some advanced version(s) of other 3D design software;
  • Ability to create concept designs and detailed drawings using the latest company used CAD and Analysis programs;
  • Ability to analyze customer requirements and develop equipment concepts for the handling of roll-formed steel profiles and panels;
  • Knowledge of automated and semi-automated material handling and conveyance systems for the metal industry is an asset;
  • Ability to analyze and solve engineering problems;
  • Sound knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in design teams.
