Position Overview:

Due to an increase in projects, our client, a well-established owner, is looking for an Environmental Sector Lead to join their team in Kamloops, BC.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and uphold safety and environmental standards.
  • Manage all environmental aspects of construction for the project.
  • Ensure construction complies with regulatory permits and best practices.
  • Oversee contractor management for environmental monitoring and select activities.
  • Develop and review environmental work plans and risk management processes.
  • Join the project emergency response team, providing expertise before, during, and after emergencies.
  • Manage daily activities of the project environmental team, including EPCM Contractor staff.
  • Ensure compliance with the site monitoring plan.
  • Support site leadership on environmental issues and lead inspections, audits, and investigations.
  • Assist with regulatory permit applications and baseline monitoring programs.
  • Contribute to the development of environmental performance frameworks and procedures.
  • Mentor project site leadership.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Establish infrastructure for managing environmental aspects of the project.
  • Design and implement environmental programs, training staff, make critical decisions, and support the resolution of environmental risks.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training.
  • Communicate environmental information to site personnel through various channels.
  • Produce a monthly environmental newsletter addressing site-specific risks and concerns.

Ideal Candidate Requirements

  • Certificate or degree in Environmental Science.
  • 10+ years of experience in construction, mining, or heavy civil construction.
  • Experience with environmentally sensitive activities, especially in-stream works, is an advantage.
  • Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to perform and review audits, facilitate management reviews.
  • Expertise in recognizing and mitigating environmental hazards, supporting staff, and understanding regulatory frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems, risk assessment, and mitigation.
  • Ability to communicate best practices, monitor industry standards, and support incident investigations.
  • Proficiency in reporting environmental performance indicators.
