Canada BuildGood Full time

Note: Please read the entire job posting, and do not apply through LinkedIn. Instructions on how to apply are at the end of the job description.

About Us

BuildGood is a fundraising growth agency. We help nonprofits who have a bold vision for meaningful growth develop and execute a multi-channel, metrics-based approach to sustainably grow revenue from new and current donors.

We’re a teaching hospital. Great hospitals do two things: 1) they look after patients, and 2) they teach young doctors. We look after clients with our agency for nonprofits who want to grow, and we teach everything we’re learning in our Fundraising Academy.

We’re looking for a Sr. Fundraising Strategist to help lead strategy and implementation for a roster of clients who are growing their individual giving revenue. We’re a startup with big ambitions, and you can be part of shaping that growth.

About You

You’re an experienced direct response fundraiser with a growth mindset, a bias for action, and a burning curiosity about all things fundraising—from mass to mid-level, and from digital to traditional channels.

Is this job right for you?

Are you positively giddy at the prospect of testing what works best in fundraising for a variety of clients, from hospital foundations to international development orgs?

Do you get excited about fundraising strategy and brainstorming campaigns to raise money?

Enjoy leading a group of enthusiastic learners and doers?

Want to be part of the management team of a startup, where you get to shape future growth and be given lots of opportunities and responsibilities to lead?

Then this job might be for you.

You'll thrive in this job if you're a leader who rolls up their sleeves, love solving problems, can lead others through difficult decisions, can manage multiple deadlines at once ... and if clear, human and persuasive messaging for caring donors is your jam.

Interest and passion for nonprofits and integrated fundraising communications are a must

What you’ll do

The main job: You’ll grow the accounts of 5-7 clients by helping them implement growth plans and testing roadmaps, and manage a small team of coordinators and strategists.

Generally speaking: You’ll be part lead strategist for a roster of clients, and part coach/mentor for your team.

Your main responsibilities as it relates to your clients:

  • You'll be part of the sales process for key clients
  • You'll help develop and implement Total Fundraising Reviews
  • You'll create 3-year growth plans with each of your clients (adjusted yearly) and testing roadmaps (adjusted quarterly)
  • You'll lead regular strategy meetings with each client
  • For each campaign, you’ll create the strategic brief, liaison with a copywriter and designer to craft the creative, and manage client approvals
  • You will create a testing roadmap for each client to foster a culture of innovation and continous learning
  • You’ll prepare and run Quarterly Fundraising Reviews with each client
  • You'll identify key upsell opportunities for each client throughout the year to help them grow their revenue
  • You'll support contract renewals for each client

Your main responsibilities as it relates to leading your team:

  • You will lead a team of coordinators and strategists by overseeing their development and coaching/mentoring the team
  • You will participate in onboarding new clients assigned to your team (even if not directly assigned to you)
  • You will help your team create growth and testing roadmaps for their clients
  • You will approve Strategic Briefs and copy for clients assigned to your team
  • You will approve final campaigns of clients assigned to your team
  • You will lead bi-weekly 1:1s with your team

You will be expected to help improve the business by creating and updating systems, processes, SOPs (standard operating procedures) and trainings. This is a shared responsibility by everyone on the BuildGood team.

You’ll have full support from the BuildGood team to help you fundraise effectively and grow.

This job is not a good fit for you if:

  • You don’t like the prospect of working for a growing business where things evolve quickly
  • You don’t like the idea of working for a nimble startup that is still in the process of creating and implementing systems
  • You want every day to be predictable, and you thrive on as little change as possible

You’ll be expected to have
  • An innate desire and curiosity to lead more people toward greater generosity by listening to donors through their actions and behaviours
  • At least 5 years experience in direct response fundraising, either at a nonprofit or agency
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, since you’ll be the main point of contact between a roster of clients and BuildGood
  • Deep understanding of donor-relevant fundraising principles, with experience in digital (email + ads) and direct mail fundraising
  • Proficiency in gsuite (google docs, sheets, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Airtable or similar project management systems
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • High level of integrity

Some things you should know
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada
  • You’ll work remotely using a mix of your own tools (we have a tech credit) and those we provide
  • Since we’re all remote, we work in CST time
  • BuildGooders have an “owner’s mindset”—you will fully own your work with the resources and support available for you to succeed.

Salary
  • $75,000 to $85,000 annually

Benefits
  • HSA / WSA
  • Retirement savings account
  • Remote position within Canada
  • 3 weeks vacation (4 weeks after 4 years at BuildGood)
  • Yearly team retreat
  • Summer Fridays (Fridays off in June, July, August)
  • Generous professional development budget
  • Yearly bonus based on profit share
