Labor Relations Advisor

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Are you passionate about fostering positive labor relations and navigating complex collective agreements? We are looking for a skilled professional to lead and support key labor relations functions, from collective bargaining and grievance management to ensuring compliance with employment standards and promoting organizational consistency. In this role, you will collaborate with business units, union representatives, and key stakeholders across Canada to drive strategic labor solutions while maintaining positive, productive relationships. YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:
- Supporting collective bargaining negotiations across multiple agreements.
- Analyzing collective agreement provisions to inform strategic proposal development during negotiations.
- Providing guidance to business units on interpreting and applying collective agreements.
- Facilitating union recruitment processes in line with collective agreement requirements and organizational protocols.
- Overseeing the Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention process as a Designated Recipient, managing resolution, tracking, and reporting.
- Administering leave entitlements under the Canada Labour Code for unionized employees, ensuring compliance with legislation and agreements.
- Promoting consistency across business units to uphold strategic objectives during issue resolution and labor relations decisions.
- Identifying potential cross-location challenges and fostering organizational readiness and collaboration.
- Serving as the primary contact for grievance matters, partnering with internal stakeholders to assess issues and develop effective responses.
- Managing grievance administration, including tracking, scheduling arbitrations and labor board hearings, and ensuring clear, timely communication with key stakeholders.
- Developing and refining best practices for disciplinary and grievance processes to support continuous improvement and strategic alignment.
- Building and nurturing strong relationships with union representatives across Canada, fostering collaboration and positive engagement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, law, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in labor relations or senior HR advisory roles, with an in-depth understanding of labor laws, collective agreements, collective bargaining, dispute resolution, and grievance processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex legal and labor issues, while maintaining professionalism and composure in challenging situations.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills with the capacity to navigate sensitive or contentious situations.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills, with the ability to assess complex labor relations issues, identify trends, manage multiple priorities, and provide strategic recommendations.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing business environments and priorities, demonstrating flexibility and resilience in the face of challenges.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word, with the ability to create complex spreadsheets, documents, and presentations. Proficiency using pivot tables required.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with various stakeholders, including employees, unions, and management.
- Fluency in English.
- Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
