Looking for someone to support in the Data Governance initiative, who understands all components of Data management and its governance, and has experience setting up Data Governance practice in their organization by creating policies, standards, best practices, has excellent communication skills as the role involves influencing their business stakeholders on governance process, providing training, hosting regular governance committee meetings etc, Experience with Data Governance tools such as Collibra, Alation or Informatica.

  • Need to have implemented Data Governance standards, policies and procedures at a previous org. Not just used Informatica and/or collibra for data catalogue-ing.
  • Change Management experience would be Huge asset.
  • DAMA Certified
  • Oval Edge is what they use currently (which is brand new, they don't expect anyone to have it but if they do, That would be a huge asset. )
  • informatica /Collibra experience
  • Take the lead on Governance activities (No one is reporting to you).
  • Liaising across multiple Lines of business and being the translator of technical requirements to the Business side of the company.


Our client is currently in search of an experienced Senior Data Governance Specialist who will contribute to the Enterprise Data Management Team in the continued development, implementation, and execution of the Data Governance program. The Senior Data Governance Specialist will work closely with business units to ensure data governance standards and best practices are being applied consistently across the organization. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing data ownership and stewardship concepts

Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Data Management the successful incumbent will be hands-on in producing and managing data governance solutions across the organization that includes the Enterprise Data Catalog, and Data Quality measures. The Senior Data Governance Specialist will be the primary administrator and power user on our Data Governance Platform tools and technologies to deliver these solutions.



Responsibilities include:

• Develop and implement comprehensive data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure data integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.

• Collaborate with IT and business units to enhance data quality and ensure consistent data usage across the organization.

• Lead the design and operation of data governance tools and data quality metrics to monitor compliance with data governance policies.

• Oversee the resolution of data quality issues through the appropriate choice of error detection and correction, process control and improvement, or process design strategies.

• Work with the data governance roles such as Data Owners/stewards to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities, providing advisory guidance and support to ensure Data Governance accountabilities are understood.

• Create and maintain meta data repositories such as data catalogs, report catalogs, business glossary.

• Manage meta data operations by developing and maintaining artifacts and solutions that include data catalogs, business glossary, data classification, data quality, data sharing, data access, data lineage documentation, data retention, governance roles and responsibilities.

• Develop and implement a training program to enable the success of data governance across the organization that includes usage of data governance tools, maintaining key documentation, user guides and other training materials.

• Facilitate data governance committee meetings and act as a liaison between stakeholders to address data-related challenges and opportunities.

• Develop, monitor and report on data governance KPIs and metrics.

• Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and regulations to ensure the data governance program remains effective and compliant.



Requirements

Experience:


• 7+ years of experience in data governance or data controls.

• 5+ years of technical experience in defining and implementing data governance best practices, documenting data flow & process mapping, responsible for the metadata management, data quality, KPIs and metrics

• Strong understanding of data protection laws and regulations relevant to the financial industry.

• Hands on experience with tools such as Collibra, Microsoft Purview, Ovaledge, or similar tools.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and under tight deadlines.

• Experience working with a metadata cataloguing, categorizing and lineage platform.


Education:

• Bachelors or Master’s in Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent

• CDMP or other Data Management professional certification is an asset
