Our manufacturing client in the Newmarket area is seeking a Materials Supervisor. You will be responsible for supervising personnel, ensuring compliance with company and customer standards, and managing the flow of materials (incoming/outgoing) to support the production and assembly areas. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision for all shipping and receiving personnel, ensuring adherence to established company and customer standards.
  • Offer guidance, problem-solving, and training to shippers, receivers, and lead hands.
  • Ensure accurate labeling and tagging of all received materials, including barcoding within the inventory system.
  • Organize the flow of materials to assembly areas and monitor freight activities with contracted carriers.
  • Plan and manage the receiving and placement of finished goods, returnable containers, and outside processing materials.
  • Oversee service parts inventory control, housekeeping, organization, and control of storage trailers.
  • Establish window time controls, measure performance, and review DMN reports for defective parts and returns.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and monthly employee meetings, and engage in all physical inventory activities.
  • Ensure effective use of scanning technology in shipping and receiving processes.
  • Plan material movements between the plant and warehouse, and address non-conformance issues as they arise.
  • Organize plant storage for proper FIFO and quarantine of parts and containers.
  • Monitor manpower needs for shipping and material handling, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Track customer/vendor premium freight and internal delivery performance in the appropriate databases.


Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a college diploma in a related field (e.g., Business Management).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a shipping and receiving supervisory role within the automotive industry.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with DDL, MRP systems, and Windows.
  • Comprehensive understanding of lot traceability and material handling experience (picking/packing).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and busy environment.
