About the Opportunity


Reporting to the Managing Director, Single-Family Mortgages, the Mortgage Underwriter will assist in overseeing Atrium’s Residential mortgage portfolio, including managing mortgage renewals. They will be responsible for reviewing and assessing all mortgage documentation, including appraisals, as they process mortgage applications. Proactively engaging with Mortgage Brokers, this position involves managing inquiries, building relationships, and following up on issued commitments to facilitate seamless closings.


Based in our Toronto office, a core function of this role is the detection, prevention, and reporting of suspected misrepresentations, underscoring our commitment to ethical lending practices. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to thrive in our dynamic mortgage origination environment. The responsibilities of the role also include:


  • Providing the highest level of service while fielding Mortgage Broker inquiries and maintaining Broker relationships.
  • Reviewing and assessing mortgage documentation (including appraisals) to support mortgage applications.
  • Following up with Brokers on issued commitments to ensure smooth closings.
  • Assisting the Managing Director in managing the mortgage portfolio, including mortgage renewals.
  • Ensuring all documents are compliant with FSRA guidelines.
  • Keeping up to date on market trends and industry developments.
  • Completing Mortgage Agent and Private Lending courses as required by FSRA.


About You


  • Completion of a University degree, preferably in Finance, Business Administration, or Real Estate.
  • Mortgage Agent License (level 1 or 2).
  • 2-3 years of experience in the mortgage industry, preferably with a nonbank lender.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with Mortgage Agents, Lawyers, Property Appraisers.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce or equivalent CRM software is an asset.
  • Effective presentation, communication (verbal, written), and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize competing demands, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and team-oriented, with a commitment to excellence and professionalism.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, coupled with a passion for real estate and finance.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with an ability to solve complex problems effectively.
