About this role

This is a key role within the Operations Team that will serve as a Supplier Quality Engineer, responsible for ensuring that all products delivered from a supplier, packaging and other operational processes are in compliance with manufacturing specifications and company standards. This is a wide-ranging role to achieve and maintain high levels of supplier quality.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Driving supplier quality performance, including new product development and product quality improvement;
  • Ensuring all supplier non-conformances are identified and controlled. Supporting their investigation to ensure timely closure/effectiveness;
  • Overseeing supplier quality function and establishing quality control objectives;
  • Promote and enhance a safety-first culture;
  • Performing quality system audits;
  • Maintaining supplier quality records;
  • Maintaining relationships with suppliers;
  • Promoting initiatives to improve quality;
  • Provide support to Supply Chain in the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, or items from a quality standpoint. This can include assisting with issue resolution, surveys, risk assessments, and evaluation of capacities and capabilities;
  • Reviewing supplier documentation, such as, certifications, end item data packages, etc. to ensure compliance to Powersmiths requirements;
  • Working with design engineers to capture the product requirements and ensuring appropriate preventive and corrective measures are put into place;
  • Assist in reducing the occurrence of manufacturing errors;
  • Participating in continuous improvement and problem-solving activities, reviewing documents, drawings, and instructions to ensure conformance to requirements, and participating in cross-functional team meetings;
  • This position requires a hands-on approach combined with a strategic mindset;
  • Adherence to all company policies, including health and safety protocols.


Essential Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Bachelors Degree in a related field;
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment with integrated power and power conversion products in various stages of prototyping, commercialization and production;
  • Experience working in engineer-to-order, configure-to-order, or custom product manufacturing;
  • Experience in selecting suppliers and ensuring the suppliers meet all regulatory and company requirements;
  • Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and other problem solving techniques;
  • Experience with ISO9001/ISO14001 Environmental and Quality Management Systems;
  • An appreciation and passion for mitigating the environmental impacts of manufacturing (products, processes, packaging, recycling, energy conservation, etc);
  • Demonstrated proficiency with quality inspection activities, and the use of appropriate tools;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to present ideas clearly to all levels;
  • Resourceful, innovative and energetic;
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills;
  • Highly developed attention to detail;
  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Strong organizational skills.


Working Conditions:

  • This role is in an office environment, with regular visits to the manufacturing environment;
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship;
  • Ability to travel to international destinations; must possess and maintain a valid passport for international travel.
