We are currently seeking a District Manager to join our team, supporting our East (Ontario, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia) stores located within Canada.


The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, staffing, profitability, contribution and growth of all stores within a designated district. They will contribute to the company by connecting with people through joy, laugh and play and continue to apply sound retail management and operational practice.


Job Responsibilities

Profitability

  • Deliver business results directly and via store managers by assessing, planning, implementing and overseeing appropriate actions that contribute to the profitability, success and growth of the stores.
  • Demonstrate sound retail business knowledge through appropriate decisions & actions that result in positive contribution to sales performance, customer loyalty and profitability.
  • Participate in building individual store budgets, support store management knowledge; analyze results, including trends and work to proactively address shortfalls within store controllable categories.
  • Analyze business results and trends for each location including store controllable – sales, service, labour, transactions (item & dollar), inventory and supplies.
  • Actively understand local business development, industry landscape, competition, trends and consumer data to maximize opportunities for each store in the District.
  • Drive top line sales by establishing and modeling a culture of selling and solutions focus in the district.

Staff Training & Development

  • Partner with the HR team in the recruitment & selection of qualified store management staff using established processes; monitor results.
  • Plan and initiate action so that future staff needs are met (succession planning).
  • In partnership with the HR Leader plan and organize the orientation, training, and ongoing instruction of the management team to support the Mastermind Toys customer experience philosophy and attain operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate and coach management performance including daily observation & redirection; identification of skill gaps, compliance issues and conduct formalized performance reviews.
  • Plan and conduct regular District meetings; share information, communicate goals, focus team & celebrate success.

Store Operations

Oversee, audit and support the management team to manage the following operational functions at each store:

Customer sales assistance:

  • Champion and reinforce the Mastermind Toys sales assistance philosophy at all stores with all staff.
  • Promote product knowledge development for self, management and staff.

Store staff:

  • Oversee people and succession development in individual stores throughout the District.

Operations Best Practice & Store environment:

  • Cultivate and drive sales culture including the evaluation of floor coverage/zone maintenance, labour usage, product knowledge.
  • Ensure best practice merchandising standards are maintained; review stock levels, sell through, space availability.
  • Consistently review store operations from a customer viewpoint, including organization, cleanliness, visual presentation and ease of movement through the store.

Safety and security:

  • Ensure compliance to all standards (health and safety, emergency processes and loss prevention).
  • Ensure accurate completion and security of all store, customer and staff records.

New stores, re-fits, renovations:

  • Participate in all planning and implementation of store changes including new stores, re-fit, re-site and store closures.

Administration:

  • Complete all required documentation and reports, oversee the completion of all store level reporting.
  • Participate in roll out of new actions, processes or other initiatives to District stores.

Communication and Advocacy:

  • Actively participate to ensure communication to, from and across stores is effective & efficient.


Qualifications

  • Post secondary diploma/degree in Business, Retail Management or acceptable combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum of five years retail management experience supporting multiple locations required.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively participate in developing & overseeing a team of retail professionals (from a distance).
  • Proven interest and ability to take a hands on active role in all aspects of daily store operations.
  • Proven record to meet/exceed financial goals: strong business acumen to identify opportunities; generate sales & profit.
  • Strong sales, store operations, merchandising, service, coaching and leadership skills required.
  • Team oriented individual willing to be actively involved in all facets of store operations.
  • Proficient with Outlook applications, excel, word, email, power point, inventory, budget software.
  • Interest in Mastermind product.
  • Strong & clear verbal and written communication skills; proficiency using business, POS and inventory software.
