Job Description

CSMC is in search of a Materials Engineer with a dual expertise in chemical processing and additive manufacturing, particularly in the formation of 3-D structures from tailings. This unique role is central to our mission, blending lunar resource extraction with transformative terrestrial applications. Under the guidance of the Exec. VP and Chief Scientist, you will be instrumental in developing processes and technologies that are viable in the lunar environment and have significant applications in improving sustainability and efficiency in terrestrial mining and materials processing.


Main Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize chemical processing techniques for lunar resource extraction, with a keen eye on adaptability for terrestrial mining applications.
  • Develop innovative additive manufacturing processes, focusing on the utilization of tailings to create 3-D structures, thereby promoting sustainability and resource efficiency.
  • Spearhead the translation of space-derived additive manufacturing techniques to Earth, particularly in the context of mining waste management and materials processing.
  • Conduct research, simulations, and prototyping to advance dual-use technologies, pushing the envelope in both space and terrestrial applications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the seamless integration of developed technologies into broader space and Earth-based systems.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables, ensuring the successful transition of technologies from concept to practical application.
  • Document and communicate technological developments, challenges, and strategic insights through detailed reports and presentations to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to business development by identifying new opportunities and applications for dual-use technologies in the mining and materials sectors.


Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

  • A Master's or PhD in Additive Manufacturing and Chemical Processing or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in process engineering, with significant exposure to additive manufacturing and the development of sustainable processes.
  • Expertise in chemical engineering principles and additive manufacturing techniques, especially related to the use of tailings for 3-D structure formation.
  • Proficiency in process simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), CAD tools, and additive manufacturing software.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and develop technologies with applications in extreme environments, such as space, and transfer those technologies to terrestrial applications.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in leading cross-disciplinary projects from ideation to implementation.
  • Exceptional communication abilities, capable of effectively articulating complex technical information to a diverse audience.
  • A creative and resourceful mindset, with a commitment to addressing global challenges through innovative engineering solutions.
  • Additional Requirements
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and the ability to obtain necessary security clearances for work in aerospace and high-technology sectors.
