High School Special Education Teacher

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team of educators.
You will be responsible for teaching groups of students with varying exceptionalities. You will modify the curriculum on basic subjects (e.g. math, language, science, etc.) to meet each student's learning requirements and build individual lesson plans tailored to their specific needs. You will collaborate with various professionals and the families of our students to ensure equity and optimal success for all.
Ultimately, you will help and inspire children to achieve essential learning milestones.
Responsibilities
Assess students' abilities and differentiate teaching to meet the evolving needs of our students.
Adapt learning materials to students' needs.
Keep track of and reflect on students' progress.
Monitor children's behavioural patterns and arrange appropriate interventions if needed.
Find engaging hands-on activities to teach skills.
Demonstrate strong classroom management skills and set the environment up for success.
On-going communication with parents.
Collaborate with the support staff (e.g. instructor therapists, educational assistants, and BCBA/SENIOR therapists) to create holistic intervention plans.
Qualifications
Bachelor's in education and related bachelor's degree. A master's in education or related fields is an asset.
Proven experience as a special education teacher in a relevant role is an asset.
Familiarity with and awareness of how to implement the Ontario Curriculum.
Knowledge of how to modify and develop accommodations to the curriculum to meet the needs of our students.
Good knowledge of current special education topics and methodologies.
Experience working with children with a wide range of exceptionalities.
Ability to create comprehensive IEPs.
Registered with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
Certified by an accredited University (BA/BED/Teacher training program)
Special Education Specialist Qualifications is an asset
Aware of cutting-edge research-based teaching strategies in Literacy and Numeracy
Working knowledge of the Universal Design for Learning and Differentiated Instruction
Excellent computer and technology skills to support teacher instruction and student learning
Knowledge of and willingness to write, revise, edit and apply Individual Education Plans.
Experience teaching in a First Nation or Band Operated School and the ability to speak Ojibwe would be an asset.
Knowledge of the three types of assessment and ability to work with students at various levels of achievement
Proven classroom management skills
Previous experience teaching in multi-grade classrooms
