Purpose of the Job:

The Director, ETD Portfolio Architecture is a seasoned professional, a key member of our senior team, who will enable EQ Bank's Challenger bank aspiration focusing on the development and maintaining of the business architecture for key business functions within the Enterprise Technology & Data (ETD) department, by creating technology and data solutions that can meet the business needs and future direction. The incumbent will ensure consistency and integrity of the design and delivery of functional capabilities across multiple cross-functional business-led and technology-led initiatives, aligning with the business line and technology strategies of Equitable Bank. The Director will be responsible for the modelling, roadmap, portfolio planning, capacity / demand management, and intake processes. The incumbent will lead strategic and roadmap planning for an integrated business functional architecture, leveraging new solutions and (as applicable) tools already in place whilst maintaining functional integrity of corporate departments supported. The role is crucial in aligning our banking strategies with IT initiatives to ensure our portfolio delivers optimal value. The incumbent will be part of senior, C-suite level conversations about technology planning and integration at the bank. The Director, ETD Portfolio Architecture assumes responsibility for the business solution design and architecture across the Portfolio, with a focus on Finance, Treasury, Risk, Compliance business domains. The position provides relationship management to internal and external stakeholders across the organization, including third party vendors.

Main Activities:
  • Key Contributions and Responsibilities include:
  • Key contributor to defining and delivering the Enterprise Technology and Data Portfolio, including liaising with multiple business and technology stakeholders, developing and maintaining the business architecture frameworks that align to the bank's strategic goals;
  • Business Modelling and Roadmaps: creates and manages detailed process models and roadmaps to guide the development and implementation of business and data solutions;
  • Portfolio planning: oversees the planning and prioritization of projects within the portfolio, ensuring alignment to strategic objectives
  • Capacity / Demand Management: manages capacity and demand to ensure resources are effectively allocated and utilized;
  • ETD Intake Process: Drives the Intake process for new initiative proposals, including evaluation, sizing, prioritization and approval and coordination with Enterprise Change Management team;
  • Key contributor to the delivery of select complex, high-stakes ETD technology initiatives, ensuring key portfolio roadmap milestones are met;
  • Leads cross-functional teams with minimum support, finding pathways for projects with ambiguity, and escalating problems to the appropriate level when necessary;
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: closely collaborates with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into actionable plans;
  • Performance Monitoring: tracks and reports on the performance of the portfolio, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring successful delivery of projects
  • Defines and executes integrated plans for program components, outlining key activities, milestones, roles and responsibilities for the delivery team - both third party and internal;
  • Acts as a catalyst for change and improvement in performance and quality across Technology teams;
  • Supports monitoring the technology investments and payback periods;
  • Ensures compliance with SDLC and agile project delivery methodology as applicable to each initiative and contributes to continuous improvement of practices

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • A graduate degree (e.g., Master's in Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field) or equivalent experience is preferred
  • At least 15 years of progressive leadership experience with a proven track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams and managing complex transformation initiatives. This is an individual contributor role initially, with the potential to transition into a people management role as the function evolves
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in financial services, with a strong understanding of business solutions, products, and the regulatory environment
  • At least 10 years of expertise in business architecture, portfolio management, and strategic planning, ideally within the banking sector
  • Advanced experience in Agile methodologies, program leadership, and project management, including leading large, cross-functional strategic initiatives with significant organizational impact
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and process orientation with demonstrated business acumen in the financial services industry
  • Highly developed skills in collaboration, relationship-building, and communication
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, influencing, and group facilitation
  • Proven ability to work across all levels and functions within an organization to drive actionable results through influence and collaboration
  • Advanced organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and quality of deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, balancing both long-term and short-term objectives
  • Strong experience with portfolio management and business architecture tools and methodologies
  • Advanced ability to conduct research on emerging technologies, standards, and products as required
