Ottawa, Ontario, Canada CropLife Canada Full time

About Us

CropLife Canada is a national trade association representing the manufacturers, developers and distributors of pesticides and plant breeding innovations. In addition to providing farmers with tools that increase productivity and sustainability, our members develop products used in a wide range of non-agricultural settings, including urban green spaces, public health and transportation corridors.

The culture here is dynamic, and the environment is fast-paced. Our people are high functioning, collaborative, collegial and driven to excel.

About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Director of our Chemistry team, as the Manger of Policy & Regulatory Affairs you'll function as an essential link between our membership and the regulatory bodies concerned with crop protection. Your mandate will be to ensure that our industry's positions on key issues are communicated effectively to government agencies, members, and other stakeholders.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a high functioning organization with a crucial mission, and to develop into a leader in science policy, technical and regulatory issues, working closely with a dedicated team, industry members, and stakeholders. By influencing regulatory frameworks and advancing policy initiatives, you'll have broad and significant impact on our agricultural industry, ensuring that our members are empowered to innovate and that Canada's farmers are empowered to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the industry's positions on key technical and regulatory issues are developed and communicated effectively to governments, members, and stakeholders.
  • Drive and deliver strategic, timely, consensus-driven responses to government consultations and information requests.
  • Lead and support efforts to identify, prioritize, and resolve key science and regulatory issues, advancing the interests of CropLife Canada's members.
  • From project committees to task forces, lead the charge, ensuring goals are met and initiatives drive impactful results. You will be a go-to person for turning ideas into action.

About You

As an ideal candidate you have experience working in an industry association with regulatory and technical complexities like ours. You bring together the best of two worlds: you have the technical knowledge to understand pest management policy and regulatory frameworks; and you have the interpersonal and communications skills to engage with, consult, guide, and ultimately influence key stakeholders.

Key Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in agriculture, environmental science, public policy, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience in an agricultural industry association is a significant asset.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory processes and policy development and implementation.
  • A history of leading and executing projects successfully, coupled with a passion for driving impactful results.
  • The ability to inspire and influence others, making complex ideas and technical details easy to understand.
  • Exceptional project management and prioritization skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • The ability to analyze complex information and translate ideas into actionable plans that achieve desired outcomes.
  • Highly collaborative and collegial, with the desire and ability to work across dynamic teams to ensure that everyone's ideas are heard and valued, and that innovation flourishes.
  • Adaptable, agile, resilient and autonomous – perfectly suited to a fast-paced, dynamic environment where every day brings new opportunities.
  • A big appetite for challenge, learning, growth and responsibility.
  • Good judgement, with the ability to consider information from various sources, understand and mitigate risks, and make sound decisions that align with strategic goals.
