Role Overview

As a Rip Saw Operator, you will be responsible for processing raw lumber into precise components used in the manufacturing of custom doors and mouldings. You will work with various woodworking machinery, with a primary focus on the Rip Saw, to cut and prepare materials to exact specifications. The role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high production standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review work orders to determine required wood dimensions, including thickness, width, and length.
  • Select wood, assessing grain direction, defects, and colour matching to ensure high-quality output.
  • Operate and maintain the Rip Saw, ensuring precision and accuracy in cutting materials.
  • Set up and adjust saw blades, fences, and feeds for optimal performance and minimal waste.
  • Safely operate additional woodworking equipment, including:
  • Planer, Jointer, Band Saw, Shaper, Mortiser, Double-End Tenoner, Moulder, Wide Belt Sander, and Calipers.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure compliance with product specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all health and safety guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on saws and equipment to ensure continuous operation.

Qualifications & Skills Required

Education & Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Formal training in woodworking, carpentry, or a related trade is preferred.
  • Certification in industrial woodworking, cabinetmaking, or machine operation is an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience operating Rip Saws and other woodworking machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of wood species, grain direction, and material optimization.
  • Proficiency in setting up and adjusting cutting machinery to achieve precise dimensions.
  • Knowledge of machine calibration, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.

  • Strong mathematical skills to calculate material requirements and measurements.
  • Ability to manage variable workloads and meet production deadlines.
