What you will do:The O&M Stationary Engineer/Building operator is responsible for the maintenance and repair of Hospital infrastructure equipment This includes areas in and out of the Central Utility Plant and Hospital mechanical rooms.Reporting RelationshipThe O&M Stationary Engineer reports directly to the Operations Manager while the Chief Engineer will guide you through building operations and the Technical Safety Authority regulations and codes.How you will do it:
  • Operate and maintain all mechanical equipment such as steam boilers, generators, H.V.A.C units and other related building equipment and systems.
  • Inspect, install, repair, and replace pipes, fittings, and maintain heating, water and drainage systems
  • Record readings from equipment in the logbook
  • Perform chemical tests on boilers, heating, water softeners, and applies chemicals as needed
  • Clean and change filters as required
  • Perform Inspections and minor repair duties on all floor levels which include , patient rooms and Operating Rooms
  • Perform Inspections and routine duties in the mechanical rooms
  • Perform Daily or Nightly rounds of equipment and systems and record readings on the Rounds Cards 
  • Clean, lubricate, and check belts, steam traps, and pumps
  • Perform all maintenance duties throughout the Hospital after hours and on weekends when the Facility Maintenance Department is closed
  • Participate in all departmental training programs including but not limited to, Lock Out/Tag Out, but all other JCCLP Safety Toolbox talks. 
  • May shovel snow, and spread salt and sand to assist snow removal contractor
  • Ensure personal protective equipment is properly utilized and maintained
  • Actively participate in all Hospital Codes (either tests or real) directly related to Facility Maintenance involvement 

What we look for:
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (attend training as required)
  • 4th Class Stationary Engineer or above
  • Graduate of a trade or vocational school is an asset (Electrician, Plumber, Gasfitter)
  • Graduate of a Building Operators Technicians course is preferred 
  • Previous experience in a large institution working with HVAC, Med Gas, Life Safety systems, and other infrastructure equipment 
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties according to specific assignments
  • Excellent communication skills when dealing with staff and patients
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instruction
Physical Demands
  • Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch to make repairs or installations, or to gain access to pipes.
  • Near-visual acuity.
  • Subject to noise and heat from machinery.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $ $37.30 - $41.08   determined by IBEW Local 213 CBA/rate sheet.  Benefits are provided through the union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement.
