Job Description

Position: Community Planner 

Salary: $65,332.80 - $80,350.40 

Role Summary:

The Community Planner takes on an exciting role in shaping the future of High Level. You'll dive into community and development planning, manage land administration matters, and ensure every new project aligns with the visions outlined in the Town of High Level's statutory plans. Your expertise will help craft a thriving community that everyone loves to call home.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Town of High Level's statutory plans and Land Use Bylaw.
  • Research, draft, and implement plans and strategies to action departmental initiatives. Prepare reports, studies, and memos for Town Council and members of Senior Leadership. Receive and process notices and decisions for development permit and subdivision applications.
  • Receive and present rezoning applications to Council.
  • Represent the Town in planning and development matters during meetings and correspondence with various agencies, planning commissions, different levels of government, developers, not-for-profits, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide assistance related to the acquisition, sale, and/or leasing of properties.
  • Plan and execute community and stakeholder engagement strategies for Planning & Development projects.
  • Ensure the Town's Planning & Development webpages are up-to-date and relevant. Maintain the Town's GIS files, maps, plans, and other Planning & Development files.

Competencies:

  • A degree in urban planning or a related field (a master's degree is considered an asset). Prior planning experience is not required - entry-level applicants are encouraged to apply. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and interpreting architectural drawings is considered an asset. Ability to deal professionally with members of the public, developers, and other levels of government on sensitive and sometimes confidential matters.
  • Must be a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) or willing to pursue RPP designation.
