This role requires a strong technical leader with a background in LEAN principles, project management, and continuous improvement. You will work cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to enhance efficiency, streamline workflows, and implement best practices in engineering and production.

Success in this role requires strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and a passion for operational excellence.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

1. Leadership & Strategy:

  • Actively participate as a key member of the plant leadership team to shape operational strategy and engineering direction.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of engineering talent to meet organizational needs.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration between engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Promote a culture of trust, engagement, and continuous improvement aligned with SPX core values.

2. Engineering & Project Management:

  • Oversee engineering projects, ensuring they are executed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Lead capital investment projects and equipment upgrades to improve manufacturing capabilities.
  • Manage process optimization initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance product quality.
  • Utilize LEAN manufacturing, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis methodologies to drive problem-solving initiatives.
  • Evaluate and implement automation and technology-driven solutions to enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness.

3. Operations & Continuous Improvement:

  • Apply LEAN principles to reduce cycle times, standardize work, and eliminate non-value-added activities.
  • Drive Kaizen activities, engaging employees at all levels to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Identify key KPIs for production efficiency, quality, and cost reduction, ensuring measurable improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, and workplace safety standards.
  • Partner with plant leadership on long-term strategic planning and capacity expansion projects.

4. Safety & Quality:

  • Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to all health and safety policies.
  • Collaborate with safety teams to proactively identify risks and implement preventive measures.
  • Ensure the highest level of product quality through robust quality control and process validation strategies.

5. Budgeting & Cost Optimization:

  • Develop and manage the engineering department budget, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs without compromising quality or efficiency.

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience:

  • 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in LEAN manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proven experience in project management, capital investments, and process optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with automation, production systems, and process engineering.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in fast-paced manufacturing environments.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of LEAN enterprise principles, Kaizen, and waste reduction strategies.
  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and data-driven decision-making.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret KPIs and drive measurable improvements.
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and change management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related field).
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management experience preferred.
  • LEAN Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) preferred.
  • MBA is an asset.

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite role in a plant/manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures.
