Client: Top 5 Bank

Location: Downtown Toronto / Financial District

Hybrid (every Thursday and every fourth Friday)

Duration of Contract/Perm: 6 month contract to hire (conversion to FTE)


Role in Sentence: We are seeking a highly motivated Data Governance Consultant to join our banking client and play a pivotal role in developing and implementing our data governance program


About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Data Governance Specialist to join our team and play a pivotal role in developing and implementing our data governance program. You will be responsible for building strong relationships across the organization, fostering a data-driven culture, and ensuring the quality, consistency, and security of our data assets.


Responsibilities:

1. Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business units and functional groups across the enterprise.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for business units, understanding their needs and addressing their concerns.
  • Partner with business units to develop and implement their data governance programs by providing guidance on enterprise standards and requirements.
  • Assist partners in adopting and implementing data governance tools for metadata management, data quality, issue management, and data sharing.
  • Advise partners as they develop their own data governance processes and operations.

2. Data Governance Implementation:

  • Develop, deliver, and implement data governance policies, standards, and processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and report on the implementation of data governance and data management roadmaps.
  • Escalate and resolve stakeholder issues.
  • Support central data governance project and program initiatives.

3. Continuous Improvement:

  • Continuously align internal frameworks and processes with industry best practices.

4. Product Management:

  • Help drive the growth of internal data governance tools by discovering, documenting, and prioritizing solution requirements and development backlogs.



Qualifications:

Must Haves:

  • 4-6 years of experience in Data Management and Data Governance
  • Proven experience implementing data governance frameworks
  • Deep understanding of data governance best practices and implementation challenges
  • Experience with data management tools (e.g., Azure, MS Purview, Databricks, Collibra, Informatica) (an asset)
  • CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) certification (Associate or Level 1)
  • Experience operationalizing data governance and understanding stakeholder challenges
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies
  • Understanding of data governance policies and standards
  • Product management experience (setting requirements, providing direction, understanding challenges)
  • Team leadership or management experience
