Project Overview:

The client is seeking a Senior SQL/SSIS Developer/Architect to manage and optimize their existing SSIS packages on SQL Server and virtual machines (VMs). The primary goal is to migrate the enterprise-scale infrastructure to standard smaller VMs, ensuring efficient execution and optimization of the SSIS packages within the new environment.


Key Objectives:

  1. Architecture and Strategy Development:
  • Develop a comprehensive architecture and strategy for migrating SSIS packages to smaller VMs.
  • Ensure the new architecture supports scalability, reliability, and performance optimization.
  1. Execution and Implementation:
  • Lead the execution of the migration plan, including the setup of smaller VMs.
  • Ensure all SSIS packages are accurately transferred and functional within the new environment.
  • Implement best practices for SQL Server and SSIS configuration on the new VMs.
  1. Optimization:
  • Optimize SSIS packages for improved performance on smaller VMs.
  • Identify and resolve any performance bottlenecks or issues that arise during or after migration.
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation to ensure seamless operation post-migration.


Specific Requirements:

  • SQL Server Expertise:
  • Extensive experience with SQL Server, including setup, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Strong skills in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries.
  • SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services):
  • Proficient in developing, deploying, and managing SSIS packages.
  • Experience with migrating SSIS packages between different environments.
  • Virtual Machines (VMs):
  • Knowledge of VM setup, configuration, and management.
  • Experience with optimizing SQL Server and SSIS performance on VMs.


Expected Deliverables:

  • A detailed architecture and strategy document outlining the migration plan.
  • Successfully migrated SSIS packages running on the new smaller VMs.
  • Performance optimization reports demonstrating improved efficiency post-migration.
  • Documentation and training materials for ongoing maintenance and optimization.


Project Timeline:

  • Phase 1: Assessment and Planning :
  • Conduct a detailed assessment of the current SSIS packages and VM setup.
  • Develop the migration strategy and detailed project plan.
  • Phase 2: Execution and Migration :
  • Set up and configure smaller VMs.
  • Migrate SSIS packages to the new environment.
  • Phase 3: Optimization and Testing:
  • Optimize SSIS packages and SQL Server performance on smaller VMs.
  • Perform comprehensive testing and validation.
  • Phase 4: Documentation and Training :
  • Create detailed documentation and training materials.
  • Conduct training sessions for the client's technical team.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a SQL/SSIS Developer/Architect.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement architecture and strategy for SQL Server and SSIS.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to optimize performance in a VM environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for documentation and training.
