Primary Purpose

The Admissions Officer is responsible for facilitating the admission of domestic and international applicants, current students, agents, and Global University Systems (GUS) partners into University of Niagara Falls, Canada (UNFC) programs by advising on admissions policies and processes and assessing the qualifications of applicants. The Admissions Officer is the primary point of contact for assessment, evaluation, and transfer credit/advanced standing inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.

Working directly with the University’s Office of the Registrar and Senior Leadership Team, as well as working closely with domestic and international recruitment personnel, the Admissions Officer reviews, assesses and processes admissions applications and other admissions-related functions including evaluating and validating domestic and international supporting documents.


Specific Responsibilities

The Admissions Officer will at various times be responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the Office of the Registrar and the University:

  • Assessment of domestic and international transcripts, including research and interpretation towards Canadian equivalencies (if applicable), to render admission decisions based on in-house evaluation and University admission criteria;
  • Provides information to potential applicants and their representatives regarding program availability, admissions criteria, selection criteria, pre-admission requirements, applicant status, etc.;
  • Provides information and guidance to applicants, agencies, foreign institutions and governments pertaining to admissions and enrollment at the University including how to apply, admission criteria, bridging to and from UNF;
  • Main liaison for admission-related inquiries and assistance between UNF and external partners, providing workflow priorities and assignment changes/updates, and performs quality assessment review of partner-related applications;
  • Record and implement procedures to produce and maintain complete and accurate student admission and education records;
  • Work output must be scalable with respect to student numbers, locations, learning modalities and IT enhancements;
  • Confidentiality of record security and privacy legislation is imperative;
  • Coordinate the evaluation of transfer credit for applicants and students including initial assessment, coordination with faculty evaluators, assignment of transfer credit, and maintenance of transfer credit databases.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with diverse group of students and employees.
  • Ability to plan, organize and review the work of others engaged in similar tasks and be flexible and resourceful in the performance of job duties.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Position Requirements

To be successful in the Admissions Officer, an individual must possess, and be committed to developing, maintaining and demonstrating the following:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum (2) two-year post-secondary credential in Business, International Business, International Relations, Office Administration, Information Technology, or a related discipline (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered);
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience working in administrative or clerical capacity within a culturally diverse and/or fast-paced global environment to include evaluating domestic and/or international transcripts and supporting academic documents, or equivalent;
  • Excellent communication, organization skills and attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Basic training in office practices, customer service and communication;
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications; advanced Excel skills preferred;
  • Experience using student information systems and related software including but not limited to Banner, Colleague, PeopleSoft and SalesForce is considered an asset.
