Senior Manager, Enterprise (non-Assurance)

The Senior Manager, Enterprise, is responsible for working closely with clients. Their key relationships include Partners and staff, clients and their suppliers, contractors and other advisors, banks, law firms and other service firms. They also include industry associations, and the Canada Revenue Agency.

  • Lead multiple clients facing engagement teams for Segal GCSE
  • Execute transactions by providing the highest level of client service including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating engagements.
  • Collaborate with the client team prior to the commencement of any engagement to discuss roles, responsibilities, risk areas and deadlines.
  • Review completed financial statements, tax compliance filings and investigate and correct any discrepancies or irregularities.
  • Review client personal and corporate tax returns
  • Ensure that project timelines and targets are being met and adjust if necessary. Provide project status updates to clients and Segal GCSE Partners
  • Ability to assume broader financial, resource and administrative accountabilities in addition to individual engagement work.
  • Be accountable for project financials – budgets, WIP, invoicing, budget vs actuals.
  • Develop the capabilities of junior staff through coaching, mentoring, knowledge transfer and assignment of challenging work opportunities.
  • Ensure that work done is reviewed thoroughly and timely for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide staff with review notes to support their development and assess their performance via formal feedback upon substantial completion of the engagement.
  • Contribute to the proposal process by being actively involved in the preparation and delivery of proposals to address client needs.
  • Manage a portfolio of clients by making sure their needs are met. Be proactive with client needs by thinking strategically and understanding their business and identifying opportunities to provide additional services.
  • Take ownership of and develop strong and deep relationships with management.
  • In consultation with partners, and engagement teams, plan, organize, and control multiple responsibilities and resources to achieve review and Notice to Reader engagement objectives.
  • Raise awareness of Segal GCSE services by networking and looking for new business development opportunities
  • Maintain technical knowledge and competence by participating in PD programs, training sessions and researching relevant technical standards where needed[AC1]

Professional Skills and Education

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant field
  • Minimum 7-8 years of work experience in public accounting
  • Extensive technical knowledge of and experience in working with GAAP and if applicable ASPE,
  • Extensive and demonstratable experience in Canadian personal and corporate income taxes
  • A sound understanding of business; Exceptional ability to establish and maintain strong business relationships.
  • Hands-on experience with developing, motivating and managing a team.
  • Experience with accounting and tax software such as CaseWare and Taxprep
  • Commitment to client service and the ability to go above and beyond.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and spoken, with the ability to effectively communicate to all levels.
  • Solid time management and organization skills; comfortable managing multiple files simultaneously
  • Ability to champion new initiatives and change.
  • Results-oriented and able to meet tight deadlines; Demonstrated experience in coaching, managing and mentoring.

Highly Desirable

  • Canadian CPA/CA designation or reciprocal CPA/CA designation recognized with CPA.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in an accounting firm
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills with experience in all reporting standards and Canadian personal and corporate tax.
  • Superior project management skills
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • The ability to lead, coach, motivate and direct a team of people.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative team-player mindset.
  • Creative problem solving and experience in delivery of quality client service.
