We are looking for a Social Media and Communications Specialist to join our talented team. 


Please note the location of this position will be determined later in the recruitment process based on organizational business needs and the successful candidate’s location in Canada. 


NATURE & SCOPE:

The Social Media and Communications Specialist will work closely with the Manager, Communications and Marketing supporting the creation, publishing and maintenance of content and communications strategy for a variety of CKC communications initiatives. As a membership-based organization, we rely on effective communication to engage our members, promote our mission and drive community involvement. The Specialist will create strategy compelling content and use various communication channels to reach both our members and the broader public.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Social media management

  • Develop and execute social media strategies across platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) for members and public audiences
  • Lead the coordination of communication team members to implement social media and member engagement strategies and tactics, including review of other team members content as needed
  • Create engaging content, including posts and stories to increase brand visibility and member engagement
  • Lead engagement of volunteers where possible, to create and collect relevant content for sharing across social media channels
  • Post member news in conjunction with other team members
  • Other duties and projects as assigned


Communications support

  • Supports Manager to develop communications’ operational plans and works with other departments to identify needs, requirements and create plans in a proactive manner
  • Write and develop content for sharing across CKC communications channels including email, websites, print, and membership portal
  • Supports media and public relations efforts
  • Support communications team and other departments with development of content and key messages for various CKC projects and activities
  • Review content developed by other departments and team members for tone, voice and visual identity requirements that take into account member, stakeholder and government audiences
  • Ensure consistent messaging, establishing and following of best practices in communications, and consistent delivery on tasks
  • Lead and evaluate membership agreement activities
  • Foster relationships with CKC members through personalized communication
  • Respond to inquiries, feedback and comments promptly and professionally
  • Plan and execute member information sessions, webinars and virtual meetings


EDUCATION AND SKILLS:

  • Relevant university degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field
  • Proven experience in social media management, content creation and/or analytics
  • Proven experience in communications strategy development and planning
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong research skills
  • Attention to details, showing initiative and follow through, ensuring communication with various stakeholders
  • Ability to works as an effective member of a team or independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to multi-task and to successfully manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, responding to shifting priorities
  • Bilingual French/English is an asset
  • Love of purebred dogs



TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Familiarity with tools like Hootsuite, Buffer, or similar social media management platforms
  • Experience using CRM databases
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficiency with Mail Chimp, Survey Monkey, Sitefinity, and Kentico an asset
