The opportunity
Equitas is seeking a highly motivated Human Rights Education Advisor who is passionate about human rights, equality and inclusion, and has extensive experience in the design, development and facilitation of educational materials. The Human Rights Education Advisor acts as a coach, resource person and supports partners in the design, development and delivery of education activities in assigned projects. The successful candidate will be a team player and will work closely with the Program Officer to co-create with the partners a quality educational experience, at the cutting edge of human rights development, and in line with the timelines and resources set out in the plan.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Design, development and delivery of educational programmes
- On the basis of the programme's objectives, in consultation with partners, support the development and validation of educational objectives and programme outlines for specific projects.
- Working with the Program Officer and other stakeholders to ensure the relevance and optimum impact of the projects carried out in line with the partner's objectives.
- Co-leading the development and validation of human rights education resources and materials (e.g. learning needs assessment, application forms, pre-training missions, training manuals, evaluation tools, etc.) in consultation with the Programme Officer and the partner.
- Produce training materials with partners in appropriate formats, in line with agreed text design templates.
- To support the partner in his/her role as lead facilitator (including guiding the facilitation teams) for educational activities, and to plan and coordinate, as required, with other team members and partners, the delivery of educational content.
- Supporting the partner in developing and designing the evaluation strategy for the assigned project(s) in consultation with the Program Officer.
- Assisting the partner in designing the programme evaluation tool, interpreting the data collected and preparing the evaluation report on a training activity in collaboration with the Program Officer and the monitoring, evaluation and reporting advisor.
- To work with the Program Officer to prepare programme evaluation reports.
Programme/project development
- Contributing to the development of overall programme/project strategies.
- Contribute to the formulation of the project (particularly with regard to the educational aspect of the project) and provide input into the project design documents, proposals and budgets (e.g. through the project teams).
- Work with the partner and the Program Officer to draw up a realistic plan for education activities.
Developing and disseminating knowledge
- Keeps his/her knowledge of all aspects of human rights up to date and, over time, builds up a good understanding (social, economic, religious, political, etc.) of the region to which he/she is assigned.
- Keeps abreast of developments in educational science and technology.
- Is responsible for developing and disseminating knowledge to the partner, Equitas teams and other stakeholders.
- Draw on the knowledge of content experts, if necessary.
- Develop, as required, model training manuals, guides, articles, impact stories, etc.
- Contributing to the maintenance of the Equitas database and library.
Management and planning
- Draw up an individual annual work plan based on the organisational plan and monitor progress.
- Keeping track of the time allocated to the various projects and alerting the Senior Human Rights Education Advisor or the Director of Education and the relevant Program Officer to any problems.
Organisational support
- Actively participate in, contribute to and support organisational and education team processes (planning and budgeting processes, reflection/learning processes, team-building activities, staff/project team/education unit meetings, etc.).
- Contributing to/providing various training activities for Equitas staff.
- Represent Equitas as required and/or on request.
- Participates in the planning, development and implementation of the annual IHRTP, as required.
- Carry out other duties as determined in consultation with the Senior Education Advisor or Director of Education.

You are passionate about human rights and social justice. You are motivated by and strongly committed to Equitas' mission, vision and values. You are motivated to foster an inclusive work environment that reflects the diversity of the Equitas community. You have proven conceptual and analytical skills, as well as in the design, implementation and evaluation of training programs. You have proven facilitation skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
What is essential for the role
- Eligibility to work in Canada
- Ability to communicate orally, read and understand documents produced in French and ability to communicate in English.
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in learner-centred instructional design and training delivery.
- Formal education/training in instructional design/curriculum development (or equivalent experience).
- Strong planning and organisational skills, including the ability to work on several projects at the same time.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively in an intercultural environment.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word for text design, InDesign, Photoshop, Survey Monkey for data collection and analysis, Excel and PowerPoint, Moodle.
An asset for the position
- Experience of working in the international cooperation sector
- Experience of working on anti-racism, gender equality and/or other social justice issues
- Experience in designing e-learning courses
- Commitment to human rights, human rights education and/or social justice issues.
- Knowledge of SharePoint, Salesforce and other software is an asset
- An understanding and command of Haitian Creole, both spoken and written, is an important asset.
