About this role

This position is part of our Energy Storage Solutions team (ESS). This Senior Electrical System Engineer position is involved in developing (DEV) Energy Storage Systems to enhance or to complete the offer, and in supporting (ETO) “Engineering To Order” customers projects execution. This senior position is in charge of Energy Storage Systems specification, definition, integration, documentation and certification considering electrical, electrochemical, and mechanical dimensions. It is focused on the North American standards & regulatory impacting products, systems and installations.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

General

o Act as the technical expert member of Energy Storage Solutions team for North America utilizing electrical & mechanical skills to design, qualify, certify, configure and document energy storage systems (DEV and ETO projects) according to relevant North American standards;

o Ensure the technical liaison between the HQ and local stakeholders of ESS activities;

o Participate to the continuous organizational improvement (IE: Drive the projects Return on Experience (ROX).


Customers‘ ETO Projects

o Provide technical support for requests coming from the field at every stage of the project;

o Actively participate in the evaluation of technical feasibility, risks and challenges and propose solutions as per the established procedures and standards;

o Work on the ESS mechanical & electrical integration design including appropriate analysis: sizing, simulation, architecture, standards, risks, etc;

o Perform power system engineering analysis of industrial, commercial, and distribution utility electric power systems in the areas of coordination of protection, short-circuit calculation, arc flash hazard analysis, power flow, ground grid, and Harmonics;

o Design single line diagrams, schematics, wiring tables, layouts;

o Validate the conformity for on grid services and micro grid management including power generation (individual or collective) from diesel generator, solar plant or others renewables energies sources;

o Prepare and maintain all relevant project technical documentation:

  • Single line and multiline electrical diagrams;
  • Mechanical drawings;
  • Cables books;
  • Tests plans;
  • Certificates;
  • Installation & (de)commissioning guides;
  • User manuals.


Offer Dev Projects

o Responsible for the new offer development projects electrical and mechanical specifications as per the marketing specifications;

o Contribute to the achievement of the key performance indicators: Quality, Costs (project & product) and Delay;

o Respect the internal development processes and be responsible of the electrical and mechanical profession reviews;

o Ensure new systems design, qualification, and certification as per the reference standards including electrical, mechanical, fire safety and environmental aspect (e.g. seismic);

o Develop mechanical structures like metal sheet enclosure and cables trough/trays;

o Design system integration in containers or skids structures;

o Ensure design calculations:

  • Electrical: Protection coordination, Short-circuit, Arc Flash, clearance & creepage distance…
  • Mechanical: materials' strength, fire resistance, seismic withstand…

o Identify, select and manage sub-contractors for studing and manufacturing activities;

o Develop test plans for the complete power system, conduct the tests, prepare test reports and present them to the team/management;

o Contribute to the validation, qualification, and certification tests;

o Prepare and maintain all relevant technical data & documentations in the information system:

  • Technical data and Bill of material;
  • Single line and multiline electrical diagrams;
  • Mechanical drawings;
  • Cables books;
  • Tests plans;
  • Certificates;
  • Installation & (de)commissioning guides;
  • User manuals;
  • FMEA;
  • Electrical calculations: Shot-Circuit, Protection coordination, arcs flash…
  • Mechanical calculations: Ingress Protection, Seismic withstand, Material resistance, Fire resistance…

o Ensure technical data management inside electrical and mechanical CAD tools and inside the ERP.


Safety

o Promote a culture of prevention;

o Assess risks at the earliest stage and implement the appropriate means of prevention;

o Update, inform and apply safety guidelines;

o Collaborate with Corporate Safety department as needed.


Transversal Collaboration

o Develop and maintain strong and effective relationships with NAM teams and the key corporate SOCOMEC departments;

o Participate in industry events and associations;

o Build and manage a network of sub-contractors.


Education & Background Required

o Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical & mechanical systems design and deployment (e.g., Energy storage systems, power generation, renewable energies, power distribution, power conversion, switchgear, UPS systems, static transfer switches, inverters, etc.);

o Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Mechanical knowledge would be an additional advantage);

o P.Eng designation or in progress eligibility is an asset.


Skills Requirement

o Experienced in the standards and codes related to electrical power systems (products & installation levels);

o Strong technical expertise in power system, system integration, and architecture;

o Be comfortable with mechanical and electrical CAD tools (e.g. Autocad / Solidworks / …);

o Skilled in electrical and mechanical studies utilizing analysis software;

o Knowledge in medium voltage installations would be an additional advantage;

o Strong technical writing skills; able to clearly convey concepts in writing and prepare concise technical documentation/manuals for various power systems products, including energy storage electrical systems, static transfer switches etc;

o Thrives in a fast-paced innovative environment where several interdependent technologies and products are being developed simultaneously;

o Demonstrates initiative and a passion for achieving results.


Additional Specific Requirements

o Must possess and maintain an unrestricted valid driver’s license;

o Ability to travel to international destinations; must possess and maintain a valid passport for international travel;

o Must be available for business travel to international locations.
