About the role
Reporting to the Crikey Editor in chief and working with the Editor, Deputy Editor and Head of Production, you will collate, report and critique the news in Crikey’s morning daily newsletter, the Worm.
The Worm is a premium product for Crikey and our readers love it. We need someone who will execute it well, while adding some humour and lightness to the product.

Hours
This is a part time role at 0.53 FTE . The hours are 20 hours per week, which consists of:
Monday through Friday, 4 hours per day

Location
This role is to collate the overnight AEST news for a morning daily newsletter that is sent to subscribers at 7am AEST each day. As such, this role would be best suited to someone in a European, Canadian or American timezone. Hours are flexible provided you can collate and report the news that happens overnight AEST and file by 6am AEST.

Salary information
This role is positioned at a Band 2, Level 5 as per our EBA. This is a salary of AUD$80,197 + superannuation.

Roles and responsibilities
Writing
You will rewrite the morning’s two to three top stories, find a quote of the day and source headlines, op-eds and events.
You will be required to add context and often a dash of humour or critique to the morning’s top stories.
You will tread the line between adding commentary and context — and avoiding advocacy or bias. In short, you will see through the spin (in media and politics).
Communication
Communicate asynchronously with the team and Editors
Invite feedback and correspond with loyal readers
Time management
This is a daily job for 4 hours per day
The Worm must be submitted to the Sub-Editor by 6am AEST daily.

Skills and experience
Be a news junkie, with first-rate news and media literacy, digital and writing skills
Ability to work to a tight deadline and file on time
Ability to add humour and critique to the morning’s top stories
Diligence
Good collaboration
Ability to work autonomously
A working knowledge of defamation law
