Secret Location is a growing company with a vision to create unforgettable experiences that take you to unexpected places through large-scale technology-driven immersive entertainment experiences that cater to all demographics. As a business, our goal is to produce, license and distribute immersive attractions to venues around the world As humans, our mission is to allow people to cross the threshold from reality into fantasy, through the magic of cutting-edge immersive technologies, and engage in an experience that feels otherworldly. 


What is the project?

Mythos is Secret Location’s fourth full-scale immersive production that will be distributed to venues like Illuminariums as well as museums and other cultural institutions across the country. It is a 45-50 minute projection-mapped AR immersive anthology experience that features narratives of mythological heroes from five diverse cultural backgrounds. The heroes are: Achilles (Greek), Great Race (China),  SkyWoman (Indigenous Canada), Oshun (Nigeria) and Brynhild (Norse). There are over 50 characters in this anthology and we plan to utilize a simplified 2D animation style combined with an art style that aligns with the culture the story is from. We are looking for Character Concept Artists / Digital Painters who can design the characters as well create production art (but don’t worry, you won’t need to animate them yourself).



What will you accomplish?

  • Create various 2D concepts for characters and creatures taking into consideration their roles, personalities, and storytelling needs as well as taking direction from the Creative Director
  • Comfortable creating characters using different art styles (e.g., Greek Amphora, Chinese Woodblock, Indigenous Woodland Art etc)
  • Ability to create production art/assets (Note, this role will be responsible for character design as well as creating the characters that will be seen in the final production. This role will not be responsible for animating the characters)
  • Work closely with the After Effects animation team to support believable character motions
  • Ensure that all delivered assets are on-style based on the direction from the Creative Director and meet technical requirements set by the development team
  • Make adjustments based on feedback from the Creative Director
  • Work with Production on planning and scope to meet deadlines in a timely fashion



What do we need from you?

  • A portfolio demonstrating your proficiency in character art. Experience with virtual experiences, video games, or related media is highly desirable
  • Experience creating 2D concepts and production assets for both human and fantastical characters
  • Experience in creating moodboards to emulate stylistic references in character’s design.
  • Ability to create characters utilizing different art styles 
  • Strong intuition for distinctive silhouettes, shapes, proportions, and anatomy
  • Able to work from a character brief to visually convey personality and other characteristics
  • Excitement and passion for bringing fun and imaginative characters to life


What will give you an edge?

  • Experience using or appreciation of After Effects so that you have an understanding of what comes after your work is completed
  • Production experience including comfort in turning around work quickly
  • Personal connection to the mythical story and hero – perhaps you grew up hearing the stories from family members or you studied them in school (or for fun) or you relate to the hero in someway
