The Cloud Security Specialist, reporting to the VP of Information Security, collaborates with IT teams and business stakeholders to design, implement, and optimize cloud security solutions tailored to the organization’s threat landscape and business goals. This role is critical in configuring and managing cloud security tools to address evolving risks while ensuring operational efficiency. By combining technical expertise with a deep understanding of cybersecurity best practices, the Cloud Security Specialist enhances the security posture of the organization’s cloud environments through strategic collaboration and innovative solutions.

Core Outcomes


Microsoft Sentinel

  • Lead the design, deployment, and continuous optimization of Microsoft Sentinel.
  • Implement advanced log assessment techniques to ensure critical log collection while minimizing unnecessary data ingestion.
  • Fine-tune Sentinel configurations to balance security efficacy and cost efficiency, including retention policies, noise reduction, and monitoring ingestion trends with workbooks.
  • Develop and maintain automated incident response playbooks for streamlined remediation.
  • Conduct regular Sentinel usage reviews to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising security.


Microsoft Defender for Endpoint

  • Analyze current configurations, address gaps, and oversee seamless migrations with zero service interruptions.
  • Transition endpoint security policies from Group Policy Objects (GPO) and SCCM to the Microsoft Security Portal, documenting processes and providing guidelines for future management.
  • Refine and optimize Attack Surface Reduction (ASR) rules to mitigate risks while ensuring operational performance, in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Enhance organizational security posture by integrating Defender for Endpoint with other security tools.
  • Utilize Defender capabilities for advanced hunting queries and threat analytics.
  • Validate security effectiveness by conducting atomic testing of ASR rules and configurations, leveraging the MITRE ATT&CK framework for simulated adversarial techniques.


Microsoft Defender for Cloud

  • Configure and operationalize Defender for Cloud across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Enable and optimize Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) for continuous monitoring and compliance.
  • Deploy and operationalize Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management (CIEM) to mitigate identity and access risks.
  • Implement Defender for Containers to provide threat detection, runtime protection, and advanced security monitoring for Kubernetes clusters.
  • Identify and remediate vulnerabilities in Azure environments using exposure management tools.
  • Create incident response playbooks for common cloud attack scenarios.
  • Optimize Defender for Cloud configurations to enhance performance and cost efficiency, enforcing best practices for secure cloud workload deployment.


Azure IaaS and PaaS Security

  • Design and implement secure architectures for Azure IaaS and PaaS solutions.
  • Apply best practices for identity and access management, data protection, and application security.
  • Partner with IT teams and vendor partners to secure the container lifecycle from development to runtime.
  • Embed security controls into CI/CD pipelines for secure container deployments.


Threat Detection and Incident Response

  • Develop and manage advanced threat detection use cases for cloud environments.
  • Execute incident responses using automation, playbooks, and manual analysis when necessary.
  • Continuously improve defenses using threat intelligence and proactive strategies.


Governance, Risk, and Compliance

  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for cloud services and applications.



Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field (Master’s preferred).


Professional Experience:

  • 7+ years in cybersecurity, with at least 5+ years specializing in cloud security.
  • Proven expertise in Microsoft Sentinel, Defender Suite, and Azure security.


Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Sentinel configuration, log assessment, and cost optimization.
  • Proficiency in CSPM, CIEM, and Azure security best practices.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, KQL, and Logic Apps.
  • Familiarity with Azure cost management tools, including Azure Cost Management + Billing.


Certifications:

  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate, Security Operations Analyst Associate, or Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) are highly desirable.
