Employment type: Contract (4 months)


As a Senior DMP at MARZ, you will be responsible for creating breathtaking environments that transport audiences to extraordinary worlds. Whether crafting expansive vistas, detailed cityscapes, or surreal landscapes, you will work closely with VFX supervisors, concept artists, and other departments to bring the vision to life. Your creativity and technical expertise will be key in shaping the visual direction of the projects, contributing to the seamless integration of live-action and digital elements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Create high-quality digital matte paintings, environment shots, and backgrounds to integrate into VFX sequences.
  • Collaborate with VFX supervisors, concept artists, and compositors to understand and execute the artistic vision for each shot.
  • Use a variety of techniques, including photorealistic painting, 3D modeling, and texture mapping, to create environments that enhance the story and visual effects.
  • Paint, integrate, and enhance live-action plates, ensuring consistency in lighting, perspective, and style.
  • Lead and mentor junior matte painters, providing feedback, guidance, and technical support.
  • Troubleshoot and solve complex problems related to the integration of DMPs into shots.
  • Ensure all digital matte paintings are delivered on time, meet technical and artistic standards, and are optimized for final compositing.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and new software/tools, sharing knowledge with the team to improve workflow and creativity.


Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Digital Matte Painter in the VFX industry, with a strong portfolio of work that demonstrates your skills in both traditional painting and digital techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency in Photoshop, Nuke, and other industry-standard software (e.g., Mari, Blender, Houdini for 3D integration).
  • Strong understanding of 3D environments and compositing, with experience creating photorealistic environments from scratch.
  • Deep knowledge of lighting, perspective, color theory, and texture work to ensure environments blend seamlessly with live-action plates.
  • Experience working on large-scale VFX productions, with a focus on environments for film, television, or commercials.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of detail and quality.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working in a team-oriented environment.
  • A passion for storytelling and creating immersive, visually stunning environments.
  • Experience with Houdini, Mari, or other 3D/texture painting tools.
  • Knowledge of visual effects pipeline integration, including how DMPs fit into the overall VFX workflow.
  • Understanding of camera projection techniques and stereo 3D production.
