Communications Manager

Our client is searching for a Communications Manager to join their team. This role will be responsible for the development and execution of internal and external communications strategies and tactics. A successful candidate will be required to work directly with staff, association members, and internal/external stakeholders. This role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

Your success will defined by your ability to:

  • Lead the development and efficient implementation of the company’s internal and external communications strategies. These strategies support the company goals and objectives and increase brand awareness and recognition for the company.
  • Build upon the standards to ensure all content is on-brand and consistent in terms of style and quality and ensures a professional standard in all communications created by the company.
  • Develop and implement Alberta-wide advertising programs and campaigns that effectively promote the company and its services across numerous platforms, such as email, website, social media, electronic and print.
  • Work with business unit/program managers to develop a strategic approach in promoting specific services and programs
  • Research, write and implement the development of fit-for-purpose communications collateral materials to be used across various media platforms

  • Research, write and implement the development of presentations, including speaking notes for the executive and volunteers for media interviews, meetings and events
  • Oversee the annual communications budget, cost tracking, and ensuring its use is fully maximized
  • Implement communications activities that advance the company’s interests with government policy making bodies in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer
  • Oversee organizational response to media inquiries about industry issues and manage all media contacts
  • Address public/member issues as they arise in a professional and timely manner
  • Develop and implement media campaigns to promote company specific content
  • Contract and manage outside suppliers, as required
  • Prepare and administer research projects
  • Manage the corporate website, and develop and execute online strategies that include search engine optimization, keyword search and social media utilization
  • Evaluate the social media platforms, implement campaigns and monitor public participation to manage the company’s online reputation
  • Prepare regular reports on activities, outcomes and metrics in support of the company’s strategic communications plan
  • Liaise with committees and attend meetings when required
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive Officer regarding changes in communication policy and procedures that may require development and implementation
  • Manage, work with, and direct staff who report to the Communications Manager


Your strengths include:


  • Post-secondary education with a specialization in Communications or Marketing
  • 5+ years’ experience working in the field of Communications or Marketing
  • 2+ years of direct supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of a broad range of communications activities
  • Experience working with social media platforms and websites, including web development and producing content for the web
  • Intermediate and advanced knowledge of MS Office
  • Experience with iMIS software is considered an asset
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
