Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing & Communications, and in close collaboration with teh President's office, the Director of Marketing & Communications will be responsible for working with Leadership to provide the marketing strategy that will help achieve the University’s goals of achieving its mission and vision through strategic and tactical initiatives with the aim of attracting faculty, staff, and students.


The position is considered a critical role in the University as it is expected to drive brand recognition, engagement, recruitment support, internal and external communications, innovation, and execution of the marketing strategy through close collaboration with the different departments across the organization. It is also to be expected that the Director of Marketing & Communications will make data- driven decisions that will shape how the University is marketed in the Niagara region, across Canada and globally.


NOTE: this position will be located on campus and will require to work occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage University’s brand and reputation while leading the development and implementation of the strategic Marketing & Communications plan, in alignment with the mission and goals of the institution.
  • Manage the marketing team’s deliverables by providing the key performance metrics required to achieve the University’s overall goals.
  • Execution of promotional activities that involve the University’s brand.
  • Establish and drive a multi-channel communications strategy.
  • Lead the marketing team in identifying new market segments based on data analytics and other means available.
  • Forecast, draft, implement, and oversee the departments operating budget.
  • Drive awareness of the University in the most cost-efficient way possible through coordinated marketing campaigns.
  • Create innovative ways to help enter markets that will drive enrollment.
  • Ensure that the University remains updated with the latest trends to help management in making strategic and tactical decisions for the organization.
  • Responding to crises or challenging situations quickly and professionally.
  • Provide a periodic report to Management on results of Marketing campaigns and initiatives.
  • Establish and drive a multi-channel social media and recruitment support strategies. Develop brand voice and maintain brand integrity across all social media platforms.
  • Maintaining an inclusive working environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.
  • Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success of assigned area of responsibility.
  • Work with various stakeholders on all marketing requests, ensure timely delivery.
  • Effectively market UNF and its programs by monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating market trends, consumer behavior, and competitor activity to identify market opportunities for products/services.


Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in marketing, or related field. A master’s degree in marketing or related field is an asset.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the same field across different industry sectors.
  • Has a diverse experience in the field of marketing.
  • Minimum 4 years of management experience in advanced education roles or equivalent in a related field is required.
  • Proven experience with marketing automation and CRM tools (eg. Salesforce).
  • Proven experience to lead and motivate their staff to produce high-level, brand-driven
  • content.
  • A sense of aesthetics and a love for great copy and witty communication. Skilled in creating, editing, and promoting written and visual content.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok and others).
  • Deep expertise in the higher education industry and innovative marketing solutions
  • Exceptional organization, planning and time & project management skills
  • A keen ability to package and present solutions to a wide audience of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage processes and build roadmaps and timelines effectively and efficiently
  • Good judgment, creativity, adaptability, persuasiveness, strategic thinking, decision-making, resilience, resourcefulness, enthusiastic and meticulous attention to details.
  • Great at early identification of problems and involving others in seeking the best solutions available.
  • Acts with integrity in all decision-making and ensures alignment with management decisions.
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning and management, and process improvement with the ability to manage multiple projects with efficiency.
