The TRU English Language Learning and Teaching (ELLT) Department

The position

The ELLT Department seeks to fill a full-time, one-year Limited-Term Contract for the position of an Assistant Teaching Professor. The position is a ‘bipartite’ role which specializes in teaching (including the scholarship of teaching and learning) and service. The anticipated start date is August 2024. 

Strong candidates will have a background in teaching academic English at a post-secondary level, in particular instructing EAP and TESOL. Demonstrated expertise is expected in one or more of the following areas: Indigenization, curriculum development, assessment, academic culture, educational technology, critical thinking, or experiential learning.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include teaching in the EAP and possibly TESOL programs, and supervising TESOL practicum students. It is expected that the applicant will be engaged in the scholarship of teaching and learning. The ELLT Department has a student-focused faculty which celebrates excellence in teaching and actively promotes research and scholarship within the disciplines of the department. Working closely in a collaborative environment, our instructors support domestic and international students at the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate levels. It is expected that successful applicants will provide service to the ELLT Department. This service will involve support of faculty, and ELLT and TRU initiatives through substantial committee work.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

•    Relevant Masters () is required. Other qualifications and/or experience may be considered, such as professional qualifications or where the candidate has accumulated experience and accomplishments judged to be particularly relevant and valuable to the disciplines of EAP and/or TESOL.
•    TESL Canada Certification Level 3 Permanent or eligible.

 

Experience

The following is required:
•    A minimum of five (5) years full-time experience teaching EAP and/or TESOL at the post-secondary level
•    Demonstrated track-record of service (, institution, department, profession)
•    Demonstrated scholarship of teaching and learning
•    Skills in building intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) 
•    Teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) 

The following is preferred:
•    TESL/TESOL teaching experience
•    Experience integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62)
