What you’ll do

Conduct nutritional screening and assessment by evaluating biochemical, anthropometric, dietary parameters and subjective global assessment; develops and implements care plans, manages and monitors nutritional care of patients. Participate in patient care rounds and clinics by evaluating and reporting on aspects of the nutritional care plan. Advise and collaborate with other health care team members on matters of nutritional care. Provide comprehensive nutrition counselling for patients and caregivers including training in the use of specialized formulas and food preparation; conducts workshops and seminars, and prepares written guidelines. Provide individual and group teaching sessions, including comprehensive nutrition, lifestyle and self-care education and support to patients, parents and caregivers. Monitor and adjust nutrition care plans, diets and formulae. In response to biochemical laboratory data, and in consultation with the treatment team, monitor and adjust nutrition care plans, diets and formulae. Consult with the patient, family and/or caregivers, physicians and other health care professionals regarding the patient’s response to the nutrition care plan. According to program guidelines, maintain and update patient files and make notes regarding recommendations or adjustments.  Complete and maintain appropriate, related records for activities performed including documentation of the nutritional care plan on patient charts, workload statistics, formula requisitions, menus and manual and electronic patient care databases. Based on most recent diabetes knowledge, review diet writing guidelines and standards of care to provide appropriate food and nourishment for patients. Review the latest clinical experience and research, review the literature, consult with community experts, evaluate clinical practise and referral systems, develop and/or revise standards or guidelines to develop written resources for other health care professionals including, dietitians, physicians, nurses, social workers, students etc.

What you bring

Graduation from an academic program in dietetics approved by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia. Current and active Board certified Canadian Diabetes Educator (CDE) Three (3) years recent, related clinical experience including one in pediatric nutrition and feeding practices/behaviours in an acute care setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience Full registration in the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.

Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents – including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study – and how they intersect across the health care system. Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019). As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
