Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician (LT) Histology & Cytology provides a professional service in performing laboratory technical and non-technical functions under the supervision of the Laboratory Technologists

Qualifications

•Certificate from OSMT
•Graduate of Laboratory Technician training program
•6 months experience in a hospital histology laboratory environment preferred
•Demonstrated ability in interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication
•Excellent Customer Service skills
•Demonstrated knowledge of the variables that can affect specimen processing
•Ability to work well in a team environment and to foster good team building principles
•Ability to effectively prioritize and reprioritize with the demands of the job
•Ability to troubleshoot equipment (i.e. stainers, cover slippers, processor, centrifuges, cytospin, etc.)
•Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail necessary
•Regular attendance is a requirement of the position
•Training in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods with appropriate certification
•Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
•Demonstrated problem assessment skills
•Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork
•Demonstrated individual leadership skills

As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department. Successful candidates will be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination (two doses) from the Ontario Ministry of Health website or other authorized source directly to the Occupational Health and Safety department. In the event that you are unable to be vaccinated as a result of a ground protected under the Human Rights Code, you may submit a written explanation of the ground and any supporting documentation to determine if you are exempt from this requirement to the recruitment team.
