Read, interpret and study plans, drawings and sketches to determine technical specifications and calculate material requirements.  Prepare layouts, using measuring tools, taking into account building code requirements.  Measure, cut, shape and assemble components made of wood, chipboard, light steel or other materials. Erect foundations, install floor beams, lay flooring support, assemble pre-assembled structural and roofing elements. Fit and install millwork (such as interior doors, moldings, shelves, storage space, wall coverings, wood stairs, wood flooring and hardware, . Build partitions and finish building interiors. Maintain, repair and renovate housing and wooden structures in factories, mines, hospitals, industrial facilities and other establishments. Install integrated furnishings (such as countertops, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, .  May prepare estimates for customers. May supervise the work of apprentices and day laborers. Basic geometric and mathematical knowledge is essential for the design and layout of structures. Computer skills are increasingly required to use the software available in this field.
