Overview

The Sommelier is mainly responsible for the management of our wine and beverage program. As the vessel of wine knowledge, they educate our guests and service staff on recommend suitable parings. The sommelier works closely with the Operations team to support the beverage program while ensuring a high quality of service that is synonymous with Milos standards. 

Primary roles and responsibilities 

  • Manages all aspects of the wine and beverage program, including ordering, inventory, organization and cost management
  • Develops and executes wine and beverage training programs for existing staff and new hires to improve their knowledge of wine tasting and service
  • In collaboration with members of management, updates the wine line 
  • Assists with daily operational duties, including reporting and opening/closing procedures
  • Educates guests on our beverage selection, advises on appropriate wine pairings based on their menu selections and personal taste
  • Ensures wines are served at the right temperature, in proper stemware, and bottles are opened correctly 
  • Leads by example to promote a positive and professional team environment that fosters trust, integrity and superior performance standards
  • Provides coaching, feedback, and guidance to the service team to ensure ongoing development, engagement and motivation 
  • Greets and welcomes guests in a professional manner and with a positive attitude 

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a sommelier role 
  • Previous experience in a fine dining establishment, preferred 
  • Proven knowledge of food and beverage pairings
  • Strong understanding of pricing, budgeting and cost management 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Excellent command of English and French, both written and spoken. Second language, an asset 
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and people-management skills 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, based on operational needs
