Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Ground Operation this position ensures airport integrity and the consistent flow of aircraft on the airfield. To accomplish this, this role proactively monitors airside and groundside to maintain situational awareness and ensures any remedial action taken preserves the operational efficiency of the airport. Coordinate, integrate and lead a cross-functional team in the successful management of passenger and airline flow by both coordinating “Day of” operations as well as anticipating, and planning mitigation for any potential interruptions to service that may result from external and/or future events/circumstances.

Key Accountabilities:

Ownership for airside operations and situational awareness and integrity of airside operations including being the Single Point of Contact inclusive of bussing operations, Airfield Maintenance, Aviation Safety Officers and Airfield Electrical Lead, support, manage and mentoring of “Day of “teams to ensure safe and secure “Day of” operations, including identification and resolution of complex and competing situations, implementing IRROP procedures, returning to normalized operations efficiently Lead the “day of” in achieving all planned and demand work on airside to ensure optimal flow of people, planes, baggage and cargo Ensure compliance with all GTAA policies included but not limited to Security, SeMS, SMS, Aviation Safety, IMS practices, environmental policies, Workplace Health & Safety, and all other governances through Nav Canada & Transport Canada Proactively monitor changing weather and the effects on airside operations to maintain flow and capacity. Providing recommendations for deployment of snow removal teams as the need arises for winter weather events. As well as seasonal wind and lightning weather events for preparing the airfield teams for the weather event Engage and lead a varied team of resources and ensure efficient deployment of resources during IRROPS Analyze issues and establish operational priorities; identify gaps and/or changes required to policies, SOPs or other protocols and provide this information to the applicable Functional Managers Management of a “Successful Day” including a solid knowledge of KPIs and SLSs to ensure compliance Lead and communicate to the IOCC the daily event plan on the “Day of “as it relates to airside operations, including construction Lead operational conference calls for internal and/or external partners as it relates to airside operations and capacity issues Organize and lead daily briefings and post event “hot washes” and recommend full debriefing to the ADM and senior management team if required Identification of deficiencies and recommendations for improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency of airside operational processes and procedures Ensure published NOTAMs by the GTAA are accurate and reflect the required daily airside work plan and update as required Responsible for being a customer centric Leader with respect to the mission, vision, values and beliefs

Qualifications:

Post-secondary degree or diploma in Aviation Management or Business Management and/or equivalent education and work experience Minimum five (5) years’ experience in an airport environment with demonstrated experience in serving a large and complex customer base Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a leadership role including People Management, preferably in a matrix-based organization with multiple operations Must have a valid Ontario G Driver's License Obtain a D/A AVOP license within thirty (30) days of appointment to the position and a D AVOP within six (6) months of appointment to the position Obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong understanding of airline, aircraft, and ground handling procedures as they relate to Aviation Services An ability to anticipate and support the “Day of” operational team as required ensuring TPIA has a successful day Strong relationship management skills with internal and external partners Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate and negotiate cross functionally in a unionized environment, as well as with external partners to achieve results Solid business insights and improvement attitude to solution immediate issues and to identify trends, provide recommendations, plans and implement corrective actions Excellent communication skills to effectively reach a broad audience of business partners and guests Strong decision-making skills and demonstrates a sense of urgency to deliver operational excellence Ability to successful lead under pressure and respond to critical and or changing priorities throughout the day Ability to work twelve (12) hour rotational shift work (days, nights and weekends) Knowledge of all GTAA policies included but not limited to Security, SeMS, SMS, Aviation Safety, IMS practices, environmental policies, Workplace Health & Safety, and all other governances through Nav Canada & Transport Canada Familiarization with Aviation Documentation such as TP312, CAP, CFS, NOTAM Manual, GOM and AOM

The GTAA is a private not-for-profit corporation and a federally regulated employer. The Government of Canada has suspended mandatory vaccination requirement for federally regulated transportation sector workers. The GTAA has also suspended the application of the mandatory vaccination requirement in its COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. However, GTAA continues to monitor government and health developments relating to COVID -19 and may re-introduce the Vaccination and proof of Vaccination requirements in the Policy at any time.
