YOUR ROLE

As an Actuarial Associate, you'll be helping the strategic advancement of the analytics maturity at GHFoC by providing meaningful and actionable insights and create a better understanding of the performance of the business and the consequences of pricing actions. You'll be acting as a key steward for the integrity and accuracy of our data for use by underwriting, finance, and Munich Re, completing actuarial analysis of the drivers of performance and growth, and leveraging a data driven decision-making approach. This is a hybrid opportunity out of our Surrey, BC office. 

WHAT TO EXPECT

Within 30 days

Become familiar with the BI roadmap. Understand GroupHEALTH and GroupSource products and features for both Virtual Carrier and non-Virtual Carrier business  Review the current reports being produced by BI  Gain an overall understanding of the current process of key reports and the data architecture. Participate in the CSBT BC pricing of LTD and Life benefits

Within 60 days

Plan and begin developing dashboards that contain a high level of data integrity and is consistent with financial reporting. Participate in the pricing of LTD and Life benefits of other blocks of business. Participate in the monthly profit and loss financial calculations.

Next 6 months

Start providing recommendations using a data-driven decision-making framework.  Develop data visualization to enhance communication across functions Maintain existing pooled benefits monitoring dashboards

YOUR IMPACT

You will help move the organization through the BI roadmap. You collaborate with subject matter experts and data stewards to develop and implement data strategy, policies, controls, and programs to ensure data is accurate, complete, secure, and reliable. You envisage how to present results in a meaningful and effective way to different stakeholders and create such reports/tools You perform pricing analyses and modelling for new business and renewals You assist with calculation and reporting of financial results and profitability metrics You assess the impact of changes in actuarial assumptions and methodologies for various products You provide actuarial support for market studies, underwriting, and product development initiatives You work with departments across GHFoC to understand their analytics needs and gaps, prioritize the results and develop analyses that meet those needs or fill the gaps. You identify areas for data quality improvements and resolve data quality problems through the appropriate choice of error detection and correction, process control and improvement, and process design strategies. You work with stakeholders to build transparency and ultimately act on the insights using dashboards and other data visualization techniques.

THIS IS YOU

University Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, or Mathematics. Commitment in progressing towards ASA/ACAS 0-3 years of experience in the Canadian Life and Health insurance/reinsurance industry. Keen strategic thinking, business acumen and problem solving skills. Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills. Superior communication skills with ability to communicate effectively and with impact in a variety of settings, including formal presentations, written documents, and client meetings. Demonstrated ability to adapt in a dynamic environment. Demonstrated flexibility and effectiveness working under tight timelines. Superior attention to detail and accuracy. Strong problem solving and organization skills. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments. Advanced Excel, Word, Access.

YOUR COMPENSATION

At the time of this posting, the estimated annualbase salary pay range for this position is $60,000 to $65,000. Individual compensation within this range is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, and education/training. This range reflects the annual base salary only pay and does not encompass our comprehensive total rewards, benefits, and potential bonuses that we proudly offer.
