YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE

We are looking for a Senior Microbiologist - Markham in 90 Gough Rd, Markham, ON L3R 5V5 CAN. Your mission will be to:

● Prepare, analyze and perform the microbiological preparation and microbiological testing.
● Provide guidance to departmental personnel on analysis procedures and correct preparation of sample.
● Read, calculate, record and approve analysis to produce a report for the client. Correct any discrepancies that occur.
● Analyze and interpret data and correct discrepancies before results are released or issued to Clients. Ensure data is established in compliance with method requirements. Review Raw data and approve results related to Pharmaceutical and Natural Health Products (NHP).
● Coordinate materials and staff requirements as needed for specific projects with supervisors.
● Train microbiology personnel where required and participate in the training programs.
● Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) that are required to complete job responsibilities.
● Help supervise quality control and quality assurance procedures. Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process.
● Interact with senior personnel to improve workflow and performance.
● Evaluate current methods and recommend modifications as new procedures become available. Educate and train technicians on correct procedures and new analysis methods.
● Communicate procedural and operational difficulties and delays to client service personnel or client as required.
● Maintain expertise in the field of food science by attending relevant seminars and using available reading materials.
● Provide technical support to Clients, prepare technical proposals and develop project plans to execute consulting work.
● Establish and maintain positive relationship between key personnel and customer base. Resolve customer complaints, answer questions, and provide technical expertise when necessary. Assist customers in interpretation of laboratory data and provide related consulting. Provide guidance and technical expertise to the client and company personnel to understand and solve their technical problems and issues. Assist client in interpretation of laboratory data and provide related consulting.
● Provide courteous client service and communicate any emerging client requirements to the laboratory as needed.
● This position has the responsibility and authority to initiate action to prevent or minimize departures from the management system or test procedures. This authority includes addressing resource needs to properly address issues such as client turn-around time requirements, overtime limits and assure the appropriate type and amount of materials are ready and available for use.
● Responsible for supporting laboratory management in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the management system.
● Perform other related tasks as needed.

YOUR PROFILE

Education: 5-7 years experience with Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience, or Masters and 1-2 years relevant work experience.

The incumbent must have a broad knowledge of microbiology and food science to accurately perform testing procedures, obtain the correct results and interpret data. A basic knowledge of food science is necessary to analyze the microbiological content of samples. A broad knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) that are required to complete job responsibilities. Analytical skills are helpful to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism. Client relation skills are needed to discuss analysis results and answer any related questions from the client. Laboratory skills obtained as a laboratory technician or similar position are essential to perform the necessary analyses. Oral and written communication skills are necessary to help supervise departmental personnel. Organizational and planning skills are useful to ensure that analysis is completed within the specified time period. Interpersonal and supervisory skills are necessary to lead work groups.

Required skills:
The incumbent is required to lift 10-50 pounds of sample on a daily basis. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a sitting position. Continuous work at a computer terminal may be expected. The incumbent should be able to detect slight variation in shades of colors.

Work Environment:
The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Increased temperatures exist when working around the autoclaves. Safety equipment includes eye protection, laboratory coat, and heat resistant gloves and other protective gear as specified for autoclave use. Visits to clients’ facilities may be required including production facilities and the incumbent must adhere to all requirements outlined in their health and safety protocols.
