Overall Accountability
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the accounting and reporting of the Information Technology departments in Calgary Catholic. Responsibilities include budgeting, financial analysis, accounting, monitoring, training, and reporting on expenditures relative to the assigned portfolio. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Manager, Reporting & Capital with preparation of financial reporting.
Specific Accountabilities
- Prepares quarterly financial projections (expenditures) and variance analysis for Information Technology departments and Utilities department and related expenditures for inclusion in quarterly projections for the Board of Trustees.
- Prepares non-salary and benefit budgets for Information Technology departments and Utilities department.
- Prepares and analyzes information for monthly, annual and government financial reporting.
- Assists the Information Technology departments and the Utilities department in the preparation of budgets and monitoring expenditures.
- Interprets financial results and provides ad hoc financial analysis for both the Information Technology departments and the Utilities department for decision making purposes.
- Provide accounting advice on accounting policies and practices specific to the Information Technology departments and the Utilities department.
- Assists the Manager, Reporting & Capital with financial statement note preparation. This includes reviewing information/analysis prepared by other accountants.
- Assists the Manager, Reporting & Capital with preparation of the working papers for Alberta Education monthly reporting. This includes analysis of reasonableness and variance explanations for review by the Manager, Reporting & Capital.
- Ad hoc reporting and projects as required.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree
- Three to five years’ related experience
- Experience with integrated financial systems, preferably PeopleSoft
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Professional Accountant designation or Master’s degree
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Superior communication skills
This position is on a temporary basis to cover a leave.
