SUMMARY

The RCC Technician  is responsible for the design and implementation (where required) of building controls systems. Other duties include; site auditing for compatibility, design of system to suit specific buildings, installation of system components and configuration modifications. The RCC Technician completes the programming, developing and implementing of optimization initiatives as well as provides guidance. This role reports to the Program Manager of BGIS’ building controls team within BGIS Directs design build team.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Auditing, Installation & Commissioning

Develops recommendations for BAS system installations, scopes of work, and installation costs based on site audits across Canada. Provides insight and assistance to less experienced team members. Works with BGIS licensed electricians to install building control systems in small to medium sized buildings. Works with building operators, BGIS Teams, or site managers to identify efficiencies and energy savings in building operations. Optimizes facility uptime and asset integrity of assigned facility. Trained in Niagara Framework. Programming, creating graphics, implementing sequences of operation in N4 Niagara Framework environment.  Understanding energy requirements and management would be considered an asset. Performs commissioning inspections to transition projects from installation to on-going operations. Responds, diagnoses and rectifies post installation service requests for BAS / Control related issues. Performs work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection.

Client Relations

Provides observations about facility building automation equipment, systems condition and provides suggestions for enhancement and repair of any deficiencies. Assists in enhancing tenant, customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relationships through quality of work performed and services delivered.

Administration, Reporting and Documentation 

Develops quotations for install for submission to the client. Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements. Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required. Participates in and assists with facility-related projects. Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required. Submits all expenditures on a timely basis. Other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS College or Technical Diploma in Building Automation Systems, Electrical Engineering Technology, Energy Systems Technology or a related field of study. 3-5 years’ experience with design, implementation, and installation of building controls systems. Demonstrated experience with computers, computer networks and internet protocols. Familiar with integration concepts and platforms such as BACnet systems. Good knowledge of optimization and energy management strategy for BAS system. Good understanding of HVAC systems/controls, and functions of building automation systems. Thorough understanding of control theory and control concepts. Ability to read blueprints and interpret specifications. Possesses strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Proven attention to detail and ability to work independently and in a team. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to multi-task efficiently. Strong ability to adhere and to properly execute processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance. Some knowledge of fire, life, safety and building codes and standards and ability to research and apply related codes and standards. Possesses a strong environmental, health and safety mindset. Ability to perform work in a safe manner. Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency. Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification. Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment. Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby and emergency callouts as they arise. Extended hours may be required. Bilingualism considered an asset. Valid drivers’ license. License and/or Professional Accreditations Certificate of Qualification in HVAC/Refrigeration or Electrical considered an asset.
